The Gunners have been heavily linked with a move for the Brazil international, who is reportedly valued at an eye-watering £68 million.
Paqueta is a fine player and has been brilliant for Lyon over the last two years. The 24-year-old scored 10 goals and provided seven assists last season, and he is a wanted man this summer.
Lucas Paqueta does not want Arsenal, he’d rather join Tottenham
The report claims that Arsenal, Newcastle United, Tottenham and Manchester City are all interested in signing Paqueta, who has three years left on his Lyon contract.
The Brazilian has apparently told Les Gones that he wants to leave the club this summer, and although he hasn’t made a decision on who he wants to sign for, it has been claimed that he knows who he doesn’t want to join.
The report reveals that Paqueta has no interest in joining Arsenal or Newcastle this summer. Edu reportedly established contact with the Brazil international, but he wasn’t convinced by the idea of moving to the Emirates.
Now, Paqueta’s likeliest destinations have been named as Tottenham and Manchester City. Spurs have admired the player for a while now and even had a bid in excess of £34 million rejected in January.
The Insider’s View:
If Paqueta really doesn’t fancy Arsenal, we should just move and not think twice.
The Brazilian is undoubtedly a fantastic player, but it’s hard to imagine where he’d fit in at Arsenal. Although he can play as a number eight, his best position is attacking midfield, and we already have Martin Odegaard, Emile Smith Rowe and Fabio Vieira there.
To add to that, we have Oleksandr Zinchenko in the squad now as well – a player who Arteta has already described as a ‘natural number 10‘.
Paqueta is a good player, but do we really need him? The answer is a big no!
