According to The Athletic, Marseille want to sign Arsenal defender Nuno Tavares on loan this summer.
The young Portuguese full-back only joined us last season. The Gunners paid £8 million in July 2021 to sign him from Benfica, and early signs suggested we snapped up a gem.
However, Tavares really struggled in the second half of the campaign after Kieran Tierney suffered a season-ending injury. That has made Arsenal think of bringing in a new left-sided defender, which opens the door for the 22-year-old to go out on loan.

Marseille want to sign Arsenal defender Nuno Tavares on loan
Marseille maintain an excellent relationship with Arsenal. We sent William Saliba and Matteo Guendouzi on loan to the Stade Velodrome last season, and the midfielder is all set to join them permanently in the coming days.
Now, the Ligue 1 runners-up from last season want to use that relationship to sign another player on loan from Arsenal – Tavares.
The report claims that Edu and Mikel Arteta are open to letting the young Portuguese defender leave on a temporary deal this summer if we can bring in a replacement. Ajax star Lisandro Martinez is one player Mikel Arteta is looking to sign.
If the Argentine arrives at the Emirates, there’s a good chance Tavares will be loaned out to gain some much-needed experience under his belt.

The Insider’s View:
Tavares showed in the first half of last season that he’s a fantastic talent. He even kept Tierney out of the side for a few games and really impressed every time he stepped on the pitch – especially in attack.
However, his inexperience caught up with him after the turn of the year, and that made many people forget that there’s still a player with massive potential in him.
A loan move away next season could really help Tavares develop. Saliba has improved massively under Jorge Sampaoli, and the ex-Benfica man could well do the same if spends a year under the Argentine tactician.
It will be interesting to see what Arsenal will do with Tavares in the coming weeks.
