According to The Express, Arsenal could make a late move for Lille right-back Zeki Celik on transfer deadline day.
The Gunners are still on the market looking for a new right full-back. It looks like Hector Bellerin is on his way out, while Ainsley Maitland-Niles has publicly voiced his disappointment about being forced to stay at Arsenal.
Calum Chambers is currently our first-choice at right-back, closely followed by Cedric Soares. Both players have had their good moments in an Arsenal shirt, but if the Gunners really want to reach the next level, they will need to bring in an upgrade.
Arsenal are interested in Zeki Celik
The Turk was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal earlier this summer. Rumours quickly died, but with just a few hours left in the transfer window, the report claims that he could be an option.
Celik was a key part of the Lille side that won the Ligue 1 last season. He played 35 times in all competitions for Les Dogues and is an important player for them, but he has his heart set on leaving France before the deadline tonight.
The report claims that Arsenal can only make a move for a new right-back once Bellerin’s transfer is confirmed. If that can be finalised soon, there’s a decent chance we’ll move for Celik, who is arguably an upgrade on what we currently have.
The Insider’s View:
Arsenal definitely need a right-back before the deadline tonight and Celik is a very good option. He is good with the ball at his feet, is excellent in the final third and his defensive quality is much better than the likes of Bellerin and Cedric.
Celik knows Arsenal stars Gabriel Magalhaes and Nicolas Pepe very well. The Turk played behind the latter in his final season at Lille, which saw the Ivorian score more goals than anyone else in the country bar Kylian Mbappe.
Arsenal’s relationship with Lille is excellent thanks to all the business we’ve done with them over the last two years. If the Gunners really make a move for Celik, we should be able to wrap things up before the window shuts at 11 pm.
