Arsenal could be about to accelerate their search for a forward this January, with the links beginning to hot up.
The Gunners are in need of attacking reinforcements, after failing to score against Newcastle United on Tuesday, and managing just one goal in games against Brighton and Ipswich over the festive period.
Mikel Arteta’s team are lacking the requisite quality in forward areas to hurt teams on a frequent basis, prompting calls for either a striker or winger acquisition.
Kvicha Kvaratskhelia represents a possible addition for Arsenal, while Matheus Cunha, Nico Williams and Alexander Isak have all be touted as potential options.
However, a surprise rumour has emerged, with Arsenal reportedly calling Marcus Rashford about the prospect of the Englishman swapping the north-west for North London.

Ruben Amorim comments on Marcus Rashford ahead of Arsenal v Man Utd
Since Ruben Amorim has arrived at Old Trafford, he’s made it clear that Rashford isn’t part of his plans.
The Portuguese tactician hasn’t granted the 27-year-old a single minute of playing time since the Red Devils’ 2-1 victory over Viktoria Plzen back in early December.
It’s well documented that both United and Rashford are looking for a way to cut ties this month, and Arsenal have emerged as shock potential suitors.
Arteta is eager to bolster his attacking cohort, and is said to be an admirer of Rashford.
Speaking in his press conference ahead of Sunday’s clash between Arsenal and United at the Emirates, Amorim commented on Rashford’s future for the first time since reports surfaced indicating that the Gunners had made contact with the player.
Asked about the divisive figure’s future, he said: “We will see. Let’s focus on the game. We will see the selection for the game.”
Given Rashford appears to have fallen in the pecking order under Amorim, and hasn’t featured in each of United’s last six games, it would be a surprise to see him play any role at the Emirates.
If he’s not even named in the matchday squad, it could certainly point to a deal with Arsenal being in the works.

Marcus Rashford has a great record against Arsenal
Arteta will certainly be hoping Rashford isn’t in Amorim’s plan of action for Sunday’s showdown in N5.
Rashford has an impressive record against Arsenal, scoring four goals and registering an assist in his last three appearances against the Gunners in the Premier League.
| Rashford’s record against Arsenal (all competitions) | |
| Matches Played | 18 |
| Wins | 6 |
| Draws | 4 |

| Assists | 4 |
While Arteta will be confident that his robust and phsyically imposing defensive unit can combat and negate the likes of Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund, the pace and finishing ability of Rashford would potentially cause the head coach to opt for a more conservative set-up.
If the England international is named in United’s squad, Arteta may be hoping it’s the player’s final trip to the Emirates not in an Arsenal shirt, with this potential deal certainly one to watch in the coming weeks.
