The real problem Arsenal have with signing £102m Yan Diomande and it’s got nothing to do with money

Yan Diomande has once again emerged as a target for Arsenal.

The Gunners withdrew their interest in Morgan Rogers after Aston Villa demanded £117 million to sign him. Chelsea got that deal done.

Since then, multiple reports have claimed that Arsenal have spoken about signing Diomande from RB Leipzig, but talks are still at an exploratory stage.

Of course, the Ivorian will cost a fortune, but the problem for the North Londoners is something entirely different.

Yan Diomande’s preferred position could ruin Arsenal’s chance of signing him

Yan Diomande has been of interest to Arsenal for several months.

The Ivory Coast international impressed for Leipzig in the Bundesliga last season, and he showed flashes of his brilliance at the World Cup as well.

Liverpool tried to sign Diomande but had to abandon their pursuit because the player chose PSG as his desired destination.

Now, the French champions are struggling to get a deal done as well, which has thus opened the door for Arsenal to see if a deal is possible.

Leipzig’s demand, as per Sport Bild, is €120 million (£102.4m), but that isn’t really the problem Arsenal are facing in this deal.

According to Ben Jacobs on talkSPORT, it’s the position Diomande wants to play in.

He said: “Yan Diomande has been discussed, but the challenge is Arsenal want left side, and Diomande wants to play predominantly on the right.”

That is a problem that Arsenal cannot overcome.

Agree or disagree? Yan Diomande could be Arsenal’s duel-winning machine

Yan Diomande to Arsenal will not happen unless he agrees to play on the left wing

Diomande is capable of playing on the left wing, but he is far better on the right. That is why his desire is understandable.

However, that immediately ends Arsenal’s chances of signing him.

That’s because Bukayo Saka is the undisputed starter on the right flank, while Noni Madueke isn’t going anywhere either having signed just last summer.

Furthermore, young Max Dowman has played most of his minutes in that role as well, which shows that there is no room for anyone else.

So, unless Diomande changes his stance and agrees to play on the left wing, we think this deal will be impossible to complete for Arsenal.
