Arsenal’s hunt for a new striker is still ongoing.
The Gunners have wanted a new forward for a long time now, and the need for a prolific goalscorer increased significantly after Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus suffered injuries.
Mikel Arteta has made it clear that he wants a new striker, and Arsenal have been linked with a number of big names over the last few weeks.
Viktor Gyokeres is one of them, but Arsenal have not made a move to sign him yet.
Why Arsenal haven’t bid to sign Viktor Gyokeres
Gyokeres is one of the most prolific strikers on the planet.
The Swede used to play for Coventry City in the Championship. He was available for a transfer, but no big English club really had a look at him.
Sporting CP snapped him up in 2023, and Gyokeres has been unbelievable for them since.
| Games | Goals | Assists | |
| Viktor Gyokeres in 2023/24 | 50 | 43 | 15 |
| Viktor Gyokeres in 2024/25 | 32 | 34 | 6 |
Arsenal have been linked with a move to sign Gyokeres on several occasions in the past, but no move has materialised yet.
The Athletic have had their say on the situation.
The report confirms that Gyokeres has been ‘watched extensively’ by Arsenal over the last year, but the decision-makers at the club ‘do not seem to hold him in the same regard’ as their two big striker targets.
It has been suggested that both Alexander Isak and Benjamin Sesko are ahead of Gyokeres on Arsenal’s list for the ongoing winter window.

There’s another striker Arsenal are pushing to sign
Isak, Sesko and Gyokeres are among the best strikers in the world right now, and Arsenal are right to keep an eye on them.
As prolific as Gyokeres has been, we feel Arsenal are right to prioritise a move for one of Isak or Sesko – they are younger and just fit Arteta’s squad better.
However, they aren’t the only forwards the Gunners are looking at.
Wolves star Matheus Cunha is also a target for Arsenal this month and the Gunners have made contact to sign him.
However, just like it is with Sesko and Isak, this will be a very difficult deal to do in this window.
