Tim Sherwood says there’s a signing Arsenal could make that would give Liverpool a ‘real problem’ now

Former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood thinks one further summer signing could win Arsenal the Premier League.

After a few weeks of stillness in the transfer market, rumours are beginning to fly regarding who Andrea Berta could sign next.

For now, Arsenal’s focus is on selling players to balance the books, having spent almost £200m so far this summer.

Arsenal could miss out on Eberechi Eze to Tottenham, which would be a huge blow, but the Gunners have been instructed to turn their attention elsewhere in search of glory.

Tim Sherwood thinks Alexander Isak would win Arsenal the league

Missing out on Eze would be a blow, particularly as the player’s preference is Arsenal.

The club’s stance is clear: sales need to be sanctioned before any further arrivals can be plotted.

Xavi Simons could be an alternative for Arsenal should the Gunners miss out on Eze, but Tim Sherwood believes the North Londoners should aim even higher.

Speaking on Sky Sports News, the former Spurs manager assessed the Premier League title race, mentioning one method Arsenal could use to derail Liverpool’s hopes of retaining the trophy.

“I do think the biggest rival to you this season for me is going to be Arsenal, and I would say if they were to sign Alexander Isak, it would give you a real problem to win the Premier League.”

Arteta is a long-term admirer of Isak, but a deal looks impossible to explore now that Viktor Gyokeres has come in.

Though Arsenal could afford Isak, it appears that if any club are to sign the Swede from Newcastle, it would be Liverpool.

Sherwood doubled down on his belief that whoever signs the striker will win the league.

“To take him to your football club almost sets you apart from anyone. I just think the rest of them might as well pack their bags and go home.”

Isak has been causing a lot of disruption at Newcastle, being ousted from Eddie Howe’s squad after making his desire to leave known.

Liverpool had a bid in the region of £120m turned down, telling all that needs to be known of the player’s price tag.

Having already spent over £100m on the attacking signings of Gyokeres and Noni Madueke, it’s incredibly unlikely that Arsenal will look at Isak again

Arsenal have their new striker, but ironically, it could be Gyokeres who would be happier than anyone to see the unsettled Newcastle talisman arrive at the Emirates.

Gyokeres and Isak have been wreaking havoc on the international stage, with the two sharing the pitch 12 times, directly combining for four goals.

Isak has been assisted by the Arsenal striker three times, with the 25-year-old returning the favour once.

It would be a combination of dreams for Arsenal fans, but one that supporters would struggle to imagine being anything but a fantasy.
