‘Unstoppable’ striker has agreed to join Arsenal now after Andrea Berta offered to ‘double’ his salary

Andrea Berta is getting to work ahead of his first summer transfer window as Arsenal’s sporting director.

From the outside, the Italian’s job is simple, as a lack of squad depth has derailed Arsenal’s season.

Edu Gaspar and Mikel Arteta failed in the summer of 2024, welcoming five players without tending to what the Arsenal squad really needed.

Berta’s record of signing strikers gives fans hope ahead of the upcoming window, with a seasoned number nine an absolute necessity in preparation for the 2025/26 campaign.

What salary Arsenal have offered Viktor Gyokeres

As the transfer window fast approaches, Berta is already working on player contracts, most notably William Saliba’s.

Aside from paying attention to retaining key players, the sporting director is also thought to be actively working on incomings.

Berta is an admirer of Viktor Gyokeres, who appears to be Arsenal’s top striker target heading into the summer.

Having scored 52 goals in 50 appearances so far this season, it’s clear why Arsenal want to sign Gyokeres, and now, the Gunners are ready to submit a ‘tempting’ offer to the Swede.

That’s according to Portuguese outlet A Bola, who have reported that Arsenal are aiming to lure the Sporting CP marksman to North London with a luxury salary package.

Arsenal are willing to offer Gyokeres a salary of just over €8m (£7m), which would double the striker’s current earnings, as A Bola states.

Perhaps the most exciting part is that it’s understood that Gyokeres and Arsenal have ‘agreed on the basics of the agreement’, with all eyes now on when, and if, the deal can be completed.

The Portuguese newspaper predicts that the 26-year-old’s contract would be for ‘four to five seasons’, but Sporting are eager to ‘postpone’ negotiations until the league title is decided.

Who are Arsenal’s highest-earning players?

Gyokeres has been described as ‘unstoppable’ this season, and with a scoring rate like his, it’s unsurprising.

It’s equally unsurprising to learn that the Gunners are willing to offer the talisman a hefty wage packet, but where would he rank among Arsenal’s highest earners?

PlayerAnnual salary
Kai Havertz£14.5m
Gabriel Jesus£13.7m
Martin Odegaard£12.4m
Declan Rice£12.4m
Thomas Partey£10.4m
Bukayo Saka£10.1m
William Saliba£9.8m
Gabriel Martinelli£9.3m
Ben White£7.8m
Oleksandr Zinchenko£7.8m
Viktor Gyokeres£7m

The striker would be collecting a wage that would rank him just outside of the top ten earners at Arsenal, falling behind Ben White and Oleksandr Zinchenko in the rankings.

Gyokeres’ proposed wage package would see him earn £135k-a-week at the Emirates, a significant boost on his current £40k-a-week allowance in Lisbon.

The update is as exciting as it is fascinating, as it appears that, finally, Arsenal are edging closer to acquiring a top-class striker.
