Evan Ferguson was a target for Arsenal and many other big clubs.
The Brighton and Hove Albion striker was viewed by several people as one of the most talented young forwards on the continent. He impressed everyone when he burst onto the scene at the Amex.
Things, however, have been very difficult for the 20-year-old since the turn of 2024, and reports have claimed that Brighton are ready to loan Ferguson out in January.
There have been a few discussions among fans over whether Arsenal should try and get him in the winter window.
What Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta thinks about Evan Ferguson
Back on transfer deadline day last summer, Arsenal had Evan Ferguson on their wish list.
The Gunners were keeping an eye on attacking reinforcements till the final day of the window, and Raheem Sterling ended up being the one who was brought in.
Arsenal did need a wide player and Sterling checked a lot of boxes, but the Gunners could’ve done with a new striker too.
Ferguson has been on the radar for a long time, but after seeing his struggles since the start of last season, it looks like Mikel Arteta has changed his mind.
GiveMeSport claim that Arsenal are not expected to reignite their interest in Ferguson despite previously showing interest in him.
The outlet describes that as a ‘major twist’, perhaps because many people would’ve expected Arsenal to take a punt on him considering that he is set to be available on loan in January.
The reason behind Arsenal’s lack of interest is Arteta’s view of the player – the report claims that the Gunners boss thinks Ferguson is not an upgrade over either Kai Havertz or Gabriel Jesus.

Ferguson’s stats since 2023/24 tell Arsenal exactly what they should do
Ferguson is a really talented player and it won’t surprise us at all if he goes on to have a fine career at the top level in the coming years.
However, his numbers since the start of last season don’t fill you with any confidence.
Ferguson played 36 times in all competitions for the Seagulls in 2023/24 and managed to score just six goals. To make things worse, he has found the net just once this campaign.
The last thing Arsenal need is another striker who is not prolific.
That is why they are unlikely to make a move for Ferguson in January, even if he’s available on a risk-free loan deal.
