It’s looking increasingly likely that Arsenal will complete the signing of Viktor Gyokeres this summer.

Gyokeres has enjoyed a spectacular season for Sporting, netting 53 goals in 51 games across all competitions.

The Swedish striker has attracted attention from a number of clubs throughout Europe, and Arsenal have emerged as the most likely suitors.

Sporting boss Rui Borges’ father believes the Portuguese club are resigned to losing Gyokeres, while the player himself has hinted at a move previously.

Andrea Berta is understood to be a huge admirer of the 26-year-old, and the deal looks to be moving ever closer.

Portugal’s media claim Arsenal have reached an agreement to sign Viktor Gyokeres

Arsenal Insider revealed back in April that Gyokeres is now Arsenal’s most likely striker signing this summer, with Berta favouring the former Coventry man over inexperienced options such as Benjamin Sesko and Hugo Ekitike.

Some reports indicated earlier this month that Arsenal have already made a bid for Gyokeres, and Portuguese media outlet O Jogo has gone a step further.

Sporting won the Primeira Liga title on the weekend, and the publication’s front page on Monday claimed that the deal has been accelerated since the conclusion of Portugal’s domestic league.

The report suggests that a deal in the region of £59 million has been agreed between Arsenal and Sporting, and that personal terms are all that is left to be negotiated.

Sporting play Benfica in the Taca de Portugal final on Sunday, in what could be the Swede’s final game for the Lisbon club.

O Jogo insist that the deal will be completed next week after the cup final.

Who should Arsenal sign alongside Viktor Gyokeres?

Whether or not the Gyokeres deal is as imminent as O Jogo believes it is remains to be seen, but it certainly appears that there’s a high likelihood that he’ll end up at Arsenal next season.

He most likely won’t be the only attacking reinforcement to move to the Emirates this summer, either.

The Gunners are eager to add a winger to Mikel Arteta’s ranks, with the likes of Nico Williams, Rodrygo and Ademola Lookman being linked with a switch to N5.

Rodrygo is perhaps the most attractive option on the market, with the Real Madrid man’s impressive record at the Bernabeu likely to translate to the Premier League.

The Brazilian has been used out of position off the right this season by Carlo Ancelotti, to accommodate both Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior.

Naturally a left-sided player, Rodrygo would perfectly suit Arsenal’s system, with his pressing, movement off the ball, and dribbling ability attributes the Gunners need to add to make their attack more functional.
