According to The Telegraph, Newcastle United are now hoping to sign Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah before Monday’s deadline.

The young Englishman has entered the final year of his deal. He is now free to sign a pre-contract with any foreign club, but it looks like his next destination won’t be too far away from the Emirates.

Newcastle, despite signing Chris Wood, have been on the lookout for another striker all window. Nketiah is now their preferred name on the list and a deal could happen in the next three days.

Your Club's CRUEL Transfer Decision This Month

Talks between Newcastle and Arsenal for Nketiah are progressing well

Nketiah leaving this summer was always a big possibility. This is Arsenal’s last chance to get a transfer fee for him, but our lack of options in attack made us believe that he may stay until the summer.

However, the report claims that talks between the two clubs are progressing well and Newcastle are even hoping to get him over to the North East over the weekend to wrap up the deal.

It has also been claimed that Crystal Palace, now managed by Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira, are also keen to sign Nketiah. However, it’s Newcastle who are in pole position and it seems like they are really confident to get this deal over the line soon.

A Hale End reunion at SJP

If Nketiah does move to Newcastle in the next few days, he will not be the only ex-Arsenal man there.

The Magpies already have Joe Willock and Isaac Hayden at St James’ Park. Both midfielders came through the ranks at Hale End and a lot was expected of them. Sadly, they couldn’t fulfil their potential.

Nketiah falls into a similar category. The Englishman was viewed by many as the next big thing at Arsenal a few years ago – before many had even heard of Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe.

Unfortunately for him, he couldn’t quite nail down a place. However, he can become a real star at Newcastle if he gets regular game time there.
