On a day that many Arsenal players struggled to make an impact, one stood out for his work at Old Trafford.

A win is a win, and Arsenal will be delighted to have beaten Manchester United on the opening day.

The Gunners won 1-0 against United, with all three points being earned by Riccardo Calafiori’s first-half header and some gritty defending.

There were problems going forward, as Arsenal failed to generate scoring opportunities, but still, the points returned to N5.

Alan Shearer left amazed by David Raya

Viktor Gyokeres struggled at Old Trafford as a result of Arsenal’s inability to deceive Man United in the final third, but the game was won at the other end of the pitch.

United fired as many as 22 shots on goal in 90 minutes, with all eyes on Arsenal’s defence to keep the hosts at bay.

At times, the defence wasn’t there, as William Saliba had a poor game, but fortunately, David Raya couldn’t be beaten.

The Spaniard collected the man of the match award for his efforts and earned high praise post-match.

Alan Shearer took a moment to wax lyrical about Arsenal’s goalkeeper on The Rest Is Football podcast, dubbing Raya ‘outstanding’.

“They’ve got an outstanding goalkeeper, by the way. That save he made in the first half was fantastic. Down to his left, it was a brilliant save.”

Shearer was referring to a save Raya made to deny Matheus Cunha, which was one of seven he made at Old Trafford, more than any other goalkeeper over the weekend of Premier League action.
