In the absence of Thomas Partey against West Ham United, Mikel Arteta decided to hand Jorginho a rare start for Arsenal.
Now 32-years-old, Jorginho has made nine appearances for Arsenal this season, playing a total of 504 minutes.
With the addition of Mikel Merino, it was thought that Jorginho would be slowly phased out, after all, Declan Rice has been freed up to play as a six once again.
However, with Merino also injured right now, the experienced Italian was needed to start against West Ham, and delivered a brilliant performance.
Mikel Arteta was amazed by Jorginho, as were the Arsenal fans, who sent a clear message to their manager after the 5-2 win.
Arsenal fans desperate for Mikel Arteta to hand Jorginho a new contract
Over on X, the review of Jorginho’s display were immensely positive, with many Arsenal fans pleading with the club to keep the midfielder beyond his expiring contract.
Recently, there was even talk of Jorginho leaving Arsenal in January if the right offer came in, something supporters in N5 would seemingly be against.

Taking to X, one fan said: “We CANNOT let Jorginho leave, the manager on the pitch.
“Not played for months then when called upon has put in two elite performances back to back?”
One supporter then claimed that Jorginho was arguably Arteta and Edu Gaspar’s greatest piece of business over the past few years.
They said: “Jorginho for £12m was one of the best things we’ve done on the market in years. He’s brought so much to this team and club. Model professional.”
And in jovial fashion, another fan suggested that Arsenal need to find a way to make Jorginho younger, even if he is aging like a fine wine.
They wrote: “We should all put our heads together & figure out a way to make Jorginho younger.”
Jorginho already planning for life after football
Of course, it’s no secret that Jorginho has already started his coaching journey whilst playing for Arsenal.
Ben White tipped Jorginho for success as manager in the future, an Arsenal teammate who has no interest in following a similar path himself.
Jakub Kiwior claimed that Jorginho lived football, and perhaps it wouldn’t be a surprise if the Italian one day returned to the Emirates Stadium in a different capacity.
But before that, Jorginho is definitely still someone who can help Arsenal succeed in the here and now.
And perhaps the 32-year-old will now be lined up for another start in Arsenal’s crucial tie on Wednesday.
