Arsenal have been dealt a major blow as star youngster Myles Lewis-Skelly was shown a straight red card against Wolves.

With the game poised at 1-0 to the travelling side at the EmiratesLewis-Skelly tripped Mohamed Kudus inside Arsenal’s own half, preventing the Ghanaian from racing away.

After initially awarding a booking, Craig Pawson brandished a red card from his pocket after being sent to the screens to review the footage, dismissing the left-back instantly.

Arsenal went on to lose the game, and will now be without their academy prospect for the foreseeable future.

Myles Lewis-Skelly will be suspended for one match after West Ham red card

With the Premier League deeming Lewis-Skelly’s offence the denial of a goal-scoring opportunity, the 18-year-old only miss Arsenal’s next match, as per the top flight’s rules.

The suspension will only impact the Gunners’ trip to the East Midlands to face Nottingham Forest at the City Ground in midweek.

Lewis-Skelly won’t be available against Nuno Espirito Santo’s men, likely meaning Riccardo Calafiori will start the game.

Calafiori looked rusty against the Hammers, so this will certainly be a concern for Mikel Arteta.

Lewis-Skelly can have no complaints with West Ham red card

Lewis-Skelly’s red card against Wolves was overturned, and rightly so.

The starlet produced a cynical tackle on the edge of the Old Gold’s box, which wasn’t an act of violent conduct and didn’t prevent a goal-scoring opportunity.

This time around, however, he can have no complaints.

Attempting his trademark move of using his body to turn the opponent, Lewis-Skelly got it wrong and was outmuscled by a determined Kudus.

He proceeded to trip the West Ham winger, who was running into acres of space to face David Raya in a one-on-one.

It’s the most blatant deliberate denial of a goal-scoring opportunity you’ll ever see, and deservedly saw red.
