Ian Wright explains why Arsenal draw vs Chelsea is actually not a disaster as winless run continues

Arsenal failed to get back to winning ways on Sunday afternoon as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Chelsea.

The Gunners took the lead in the second half at Stamford Bridge, as Martin Odegaard picked out Gabriel Martinelli at the back post.

However, the North London club could not hold on to their lead for more than ten minutes before Pedro Neto struck Chelsea level.

Arsenal still might have won it at the death, but Mikel Arteta was reduced to a heap on the floor as Leandro Trossard tapped wide from close range with the very last kick of the game.

Ian Wright gives verdict on Chelsea 1-1 Arsenal

Arsenal have now gone four Premier League games without a win, leaving their title dream hanging by a thread.

Prior to drawing against Chelsea, Arteta’s side were beaten by Newcastle United, were held to another stalemate by Liverpool, and lost against Bournemouth.

Arsenal were told they needed to beat Chelsea to keep their title dream alive. However, as far as Ian Wright is concerned, what played out at Stamford Bridge on Sunday was no disaster from the Gunners’ perspective.

Speaking on his Wrighty’s House podcast, the Arsenal legend said: “Just coming from the game and I’m quite pleased about how it’s gone.

“Obviously, once I saw the team, I was a lot happier to see Odegaard, even though we could see that he’s nowhere near what we’re going to need from him, but he’s still done enough to create the goal for us.

“What I can’t get out of my head, what people used to say about us with the top six, and this Chelsea side is in the ascendancy, and we still went there and we got a point. For me, I’m still taking it as a good point.”

Are Arsenal out of the title race?

There is still a long way to go in this campaign, and time for the Gunners to gain ground on Liverpool.

However, the Reds are clearly in a very strong position, as they are currently enjoying a clear lead at the top of the Premier League table, and are nine points clear of Arsenal.

If Arteta’s side are to be crowned champions this season, they can scarcely afford to put another foot wrong. There is no room for error left.

Paul Merson has challenged Arsenal to win their next seven Premier League games, just to keep themselves in the title race.
