The Italian media have been rather critical of Cristhian Mosquera during Arsenal’s 3-1 win over Inter Milan, which is bizarre because the Spaniard was actually very impressive.
It was a great night all round for the Gunners, who won 3-1 at the San Siro to make it seven wins from seven in the Champions League.
Arsenal signed Cristhian Mosquera for just £13m. How much is he worth today?
Gabriel Jesus netted a brace, and Viktor Gyokeres came off the bench to seal the win and secure a top-two finish for Mikel Arteta’s team.
Nobody put a foot wrong against Inter, and there were some very impressive performances, including from Mosquera, making it even more odd that the media didn’t rate him.
Italian media critical of Cristhian Mosquera’s performance during Inter Milan 1-3 Arsenal
Gazzetta dello Sport have slammed Cristhian Mosquera’s performance during Arsenal’s 3-1 win over Inter Milan.
The defender was making his first appearance for Arsenal since December 3, after Mosquera picked up an injury against Wolves.
He seamlessly slotted right back into Arteta’s team and looked great alongside William Saliba in a very testing environment.
Mosquera really impressed against Inter; however, the Italian outlet did not agree, claiming that he struggled in several duels.
The Italian newspaper rated him just 5.5/10 and wrote: “A loose pass slows Thuram down, before Sucic pulls off a stroke of genius.
It’s time to vote for Arsenal’s Man of the Match against Inter Milan 🔥
“But he’s struggling in the head-to-head duels. As soon as Pio Esposito is subbed on, Arteta removes him.”
Away at the San Siro, Mosquera managed eight defensive contributions, 47 touches, and completed 34 passes on a rather impressive evening.
Recently, Arteta admitted that Mosquera’s performance levels have surprised him, and his latest display will have also delighted him.
Last summer, Mosquera was signed for just £13m, and he continues to show why he could be the best value signing the Gunners have made in years.
Mikel Arteta impressed by Cristhian Mosquera’s ‘incredible’ performance
Arteta will also be bemused by the Italian media’s rating, as after the match, he described Mosquera’s performance against Inter as ‘incredible’.
Arteta told the media: “Mosquera, he’s supposed to be another two weeks before coming back.
“But the medical staff and the sports scientists have done incredibly well with him to work every single hour to give him the chance to play.
“Today he had to play, and against the strikers, I think he’s done an incredible job as well.”
