Arsenal are working hard behind the scenes in order to bring in some fresh faces to add to Mikel Arteta’s squad this season.

Josh Kroenke is in attendance at the Emirates Stadium for the Champions League clash with Dinamo Zagreb and fans will be hoping this is a sign that some movement may start to occur regarding transfer activity.

Arsenal have reportedly agreed personal terms with Matheus Cunha but it remains to be seen whether a deal can be struck with Wolves for the Brazilian frontman.

Arsenal are interested in Douglas Luiz as they also look to bolster their midfield and Liverpool manager Arne Slot has been commenting on another midfielder that Arsenal are set to sign at the end of the season.

Arne Slot reveals why Liverpool wanted to sign Martin Zubimendi

Speaking to TNT Sports on their pre-match Champions League coverage, Liverpool boss Slot has hinted why he wanted to sign midfielder Martin Zubimendi.

When discussing his side’s tactical set-up with midfielders coming deeper than both centre backs to receive the ball, Slot stated: “I prefer them to get the ball behind those two.”

The Dutch manager explained that this tactic allowed Liverpool to beat an opposition press as the centre backs became passing options for the deep-lying midfielder. Slot went on to explain how target Zubimendi would have been ‘ideal’ for that role.

Slot stated: “I even think the player that we wanted to bring in – I think it’s out in the open that much – was also a player that was really comfortable, is still a player that is really comfortable on the ball and can bring the ball from our last line to our forwards.”

Zubimendi can bring something special to Arsenal’s midfield

Arsenal have ‘virtually completed’ a deal to sign Zubimendi and there is a lot of excitement as to the qualities that the Spanish international will bring to Arsenal’s midfield.

Zubimendi’s arrival has cast doubt over the futures of Thomas Partey and Jorginho with their contract coming to an end in the summer.

It is clear that Zubimendi offers more in building attacks, something that Slot highlighted, with his eye for a progressive pass and the ability to receive the ball from the defence.

Defensively, the Spaniard also ranks highly in terms of tackles won and aerial duels won, which will solidify Arsenal even further having let sloppy goals in on a consistent basis this season.

Zubimendi is a smart move from the club for the summer, now they need a couple more smart moves in attacking areas to bring Mikel Arteta some variety to his team selections.
