Mikel Arteta is under pressure to add a forward to his ranks this winter, as he side continues to struggle in the final third.

Arsenal slumped to a disappointing 1-1 draw with Brighton at the Amex on Saturday evening, in a game that saw the away side muster up just nine shots.

Having scored 39 goals in 20 Premier League matches thus far, the Gunners have found the back of the net on fewer occasions than both Liverpool and Tottenham.

Question marks over Arteta’s team’s offensive capabilities are subsequently beginning to be raised, with fans and pundits calling for the club to dip into the market this month.

Ethan Nwaneri shined on the right-wing against the Seagulls in Bukayo Saka’s absence, but there’s a consensus that Arsenal cannot rely upon a 17-year-old and the rest of the current attacking cohort to ensure they attain major silverware this season.

Matteo Guendouzi has hailed Arsenal target Randal Kolo Muani

With January generally not representing the ideal moment to secure long-term marquee targets, an opportunistic signing may be the most likely outcome for Arteta.

One name that has been mentioned as a potential addition that would fit this mould is outcasted Paris Saint-Germain striker Randal Kolo Muani.

Evidently a player of immense calibre, Kylian Mbappe has described Kolo Muani as ‘complete’, and he’s not the only compatriot to wax lyrical about the former Eintracht Frankfurt man.

Former Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi hailed Kolo Muani as ‘one of the best strikers in Europe’ back in November – via FootBoom. This glowing review a testament to the player’s ability, and surely an indication to Arteta that he should consider bringing him to the Emirates.

Tottenham are said to be rivalling Arsenal for Kolo Muani’s signature, which could make the deal difficult to pull off, although the allure of competing towards the top of the Premier League table may attract the Frenchman to N5 rather than N17.

The 26-year-old scored nine goals and provided six assists in a relatively productive debut campaign at the Parc des Princes last season, but has found himself playing second fiddle to the likes of Marco Asensio and Lee Kang-in this term, starting just two Ligue 1 games.

Thus, the number nine is understood to be available this winter, and could be a convenient deal for Arsenal to enact.

Kolo Muani’s statistics suggest Arsenal should sign him

While many Arsenal fans feel the club need an out-and-out prolific goalscorer, Arteta has tended to favour spreading goals out across his ensemble.

Having broken their goal-scoring record in each of the last two seasons, finding the back of the net clearly isn’t a significant issue.

However, without Martin Odegaard for an extended period of time, and now without Saka, the Gunners have certainly lacked firepower.

Arteta’s team needs one more player who can contribute consistently in the final third for the rest of the season, and Kolo Muani has proven he can do this.

Scoring 15 goals and registering eleven assists in just 31 Bundesliga starts in his final season at Frankfurt, the France international has a track record of producing impressive output.

With PSG reportedly eager to sanction at least a temporary departure for Kolo Muani, Arsenal ought to make their move.
