Jamie Carragher makes Arsenal title claim

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has told Arsenal and Liverpool that they must beat Manchester City if they are to win the Premier League title this season. Both teams are looking to win the division this campaign, with serial winners City still standing in their way.

The Gunners and the Reds still have to face Pep Guardiola’s side before the end of the campaign, which could play a big part. On the title race, Carragher said on Sky Sports: “I think the only thing from Liverpool and Arsenal’s point of view is, there will be that little bit of nervousness and panic…but Arsenal and Liverpool have both got to play City. If you want to win the league, you’re going to have to beat City, and then the other teams that you play against, you’re probably going to be favourites.”

Robin van Persie on Arsenal exit

Former Arsenal striker Robin van Persie has tried to explain his exit from the club to rivals Manchester United in a recent interview with the High-Performance podcast. The Dutchman has been an unpopular character with supporters of the north London club since making his high-profile switch 2012.

Speaking on the podcast, Van Persie said: “I can promise you on my kids if someone comes with proof that Arsenal offered me a deal, I will give you a million [pounds] now, today. It was Arsenal’s decision not to offer me a deal and that is up to them. After many conversations, it became clear that we had different ideas about the club.

“I had seven points where I thought Arsenal could improve and in my opinion those seven points they should start dealing with them straight away to be able to compete with the best teams. It doesn’t really matter what points they are, what matters is that Ivan [Gazidis] decided that he didn’t agree with one single point of those seven points – which is fair enough.”
