Arsenal fans are taking aim at Mikel Arteta in the wake of Liverpool’s dominant win over West Ham.
As Arsenal continue to study the league leaders’ results, all eyes were on Arne Slot’s side on Sunday night, who travelled to the London Stadium to battle West Ham.
The Gunners sit nine points and a game in hand behind Liverpool, who are showing no signs of slowing down.
Arteta’s title rivals stunned West Ham with a 5-0 win on the road, as the differences between Arsenal and Liverpool continued to be exposed.
While Arsenal topped the 2024 Premier League table, as the year comes to a close, many fans are carrying a lot of resentment into the new year.

Arsenal fans send transfer warning to Mikel Arteta
After finishing behind Manchester City for two consecutive seasons, there was great hope that the 2024/25 campaign would see Arsenal win the Premier League for the first time since 2004.
Instead, Liverpool have emerged all guns blazing, which some believe wouldn’t be an issue for the Gunners had Arteta and Edu Gaspar stocked up sufficiently in the summer.
Following the Reds’ statement win over West Ham, Arsenal supporters far and wide flooded to share their regrets from the summer transfer window.
“We were ahead of them the last two years. Embarrassing that we didn’t push forward in the summer to get us over the line. Transfer window was a disaster bar Calafiori,” one Arsenal fan warned on X.
Others shared the same opinion, focusing on Edu and Arteta’s transfer blunders during the summer window.
On the topic of a ‘blunder’, one supporter said, “Arteta’s biggest blunder is not strengthening his attacking department which is our weakest link.”
Another responded, “We need to just start bringing in elite talent not specific profiles which fit a very niche system Arteta has created.”
The subject revolved around the lack of spark Arsenal have in attack compared to Liverpool, seeing supporters blast Arteta and former sporting director Edu.
- “Salah, Jota, Diaz all win games by themselves. Arsenal have Saka, that’s it. I love Odegaard but he doesn’t score anywhere near enough goals.”
- “We just lost Saka for most of the season and have no replacements, there’s been no urgency or planning or desire to sign attacking reinforcements for years.”
Right now, Liverpool are looking untouchable, with talisman Mohamed Salah already flexing 30 goal contributions in 18 appearances in the Premier League.
Such level is what Arteta should have expected, as one supporter took aim at the club for failing to take advantage of recognised ‘weaknesses’.
“We knew where the weaknesses lied. We saw how we struggled at times to create and finish chances. Instead of bringing in a world-class striker to finish the rebuild, we brought in rotation players. Huge missed opportunity.”
What Arteta has said about Arsenal’s transfer plans
With 20 games still to play, Arsenal are far from being out of the title race however, it’s clear that the Gunners are not in a desired position.
Fortunately, the January transfer window is far approaching, handing Arteta the chance to redeem himself in the market in a bid to bolster his incomplete Arsenal squad.

The Spaniard has held his cards close to his chest however, in a recent interview with the club’s media team, via Arsenal’s official website, Arteta said he will ‘be there’ to eye the market.
“We are prepared if we need to do something, we’re capable of doing something, but then that transfer window is very tricky and difficult to control. The opportunities are very limited but we’ll be there.”
Fans are desperate to see some promise going forward, with matters not helped by Bukayo Saka’s injury, something the Gunners must combat in the winter window.
