Arsenal fans are furious with Mikel Arteta after latest Martin Zubimendi transfer rumours

Arsenal have again been linked with a move for Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, with a transfer mooted for next summer.

Mikel Arteta has been interested in Zubimendi for some time, but the Spain star has rejected Arsenal, as well as Bayern Munich and Liverpool, to remain at his club.

There is no shortage of interest in Zubimendi, who has consistently impressed in La Liga, and showed his quality when stepping in to replace Rodri in the final of Euro 2024.

Arsenal have again been linked with a move, and may hold an advantage having signed his old teammate Mikel Merino in the summer, whilst Real Sociedad director Roberto Olabe has also been linked with a move to the Emirates.

Despite Zubimendi’s quality though, fans are unimpressed with Arteta as a result of the links, but this fury has little to do with the midfielder himself.

Arsenal fans furious as Mikel Arteta linked with Martin Zubimendi

Arsenal have signed several central midfielders in recent years, and fans have now urged Arteta to prioritise strengthening the attack rather than moving for Zubimendi.

“No thanks. Need a dynamic & creative LCM. Let Rice develop as DM, sacrifices some passing but makes us much more solid defensively. Creativity is our main issue in MF, as seen when Ode is injured. Put the rest of the money in LW & CF. Martinelli and Havertz should be backups,” a fan posted on X.

“5 defensive midfielders una buy a striker,” another claimed.

“Get a clinical striker & class LW first,” a fan added.

“we do NOT need another 6..we need another 8,10,Left Back(assuming Timber will be a rightback for us),a Left Winger and a back up to Saka…not to even mention an actual Striker,” another fumed.

“This is misplaced priority. Real Madrid won lot of trophies with Casemiro at the heart of the midfield. He was flanked by creative midfielders, Kroos and Modric. Declan has better security than Casemiro in possession, but Arteta still wants a Pirlo in DM to start winning trophies,” another pointed out.

Martin Zubimendi would be excellent for Arsenal but only alongside attackers

Arsenal’s recent matches have seen the team score just once in four Premier League and Champions League away games, with it clear that additional attacking options are needed.

Arteta already has several top-quality defensive midfielders at his disposal, with Thomas Partey, Declan Rice and Jorginho all excelling as a number six at various points this season.

Zubimendi would add a lot to the team in possession, and his passing from deep positions could indirectly help Arsenal’s attack, but fans will be furious if the Spaniard is signed without further investment on a winger or centre-forward to add a much-needed spark in attack.
