Arsenal fans have had their favourites over the years but have also seen utter despair in a number of high profile departures.

Cesc Fabregas was one of those departures that broke the hearts of supporters and his manager Arsene Wenger when he moved to Barcelona back in 2011.

Samir Nasri and Bacary Sagna left the club for Manchester City and went on to win the Premier League title with the Gunners’ rivals.

One departure stung more than most with the way the deal panned out, but Ian Wright has revealed his disappointment in that particular former Arsenal player not getting the recognition that he deserved for his performances.

Ian Wright believes Robin van Persie doesn’t get the ‘love’ he deserved

Wright has expressed his belief that former Arsenal striker Robin van Persie doesn’t get the ‘love’ he deserves from either Arsenal or Manchester United fans.

Van Persie left the Gunners in 2012 for Sir Alex Ferguson’s side with just one year left on his contract and went on to win the title with United in his first season.

Arsenal supporters saw the move as a huge betrayal given that he was club captain at the time, but Wright feels his ability often gets forgotten.

Wright stated: “Do you know what it is, it’s a shame with his ability and how good he was, I don’t think he gets the love he should get.

“With us now, how we are with him, and at United he wasn’t there long enough to get that love that fans should have for him, that proper love.

“Van Persie, they don’t have him up there, if he’d been at United for all those years or if he’d stayed at Arsenal I think he’d get that.”

Robin van Persie’s Arsenal and Manchester United careers

Jack Wilshere believes van Persie cost Arsenal a league title by moving to Manchester and that shows the ability that the Dutch striker possessed.

His left foot was as sweet as you could wish to witness and van Persie had the ability to score all types of goals during his career.

Unfortunately for the Gunners, van Persie’s only trophy at the club was the 2005 FA Cup triumph over United.

It was at Old Trafford where van Persie picked up his only Premier League title – something that still leaves a bitter taste in Arsenal fans’ mouths.

Whatever the opinion surrounding his transfer to United, there was no doubting the quality that the Dutch international had and would be a valuable asset right now to Mikel Arteta’s current side.
