Arsenal have made their call on whether to appeal Myles Lewis-Skelly’s red card that he was awarded in the win over Wolves in the Premier League.

The Hale Academy graduate was given a start at left-back by Mikel Arteta, but was embroiled in controversy at Molineux on Saturday.

As part of a blistering counter-attack, the defender clipped the Wolves attack on the foot to stop a dangerous attack.

While many expected a yellow card, Michael Oliver showed a red card to Lewis-Skelly, reducing Arsenal to ten men.

It wasn’t a popular decision, with the red card brandished as one of the “worst” decisions ever made in the Premier League.

Arteta hinted at appealing Lewis-Skelly’s sending off, with reference to Bruno Fernandes’ overturned decision earlier in the campaign.

Arsenal appeal Myles Lewis-Skelly red card decision

With the following controversy now starting to settle, Arsenal have officially submitted an appeal over Myles Lewis-Skelly’s red card.

It came after Arsenal fans were fuming over the sending-off, while former referee Dermot Gallagher claimed it was a mistake.

The Gunners should get an answer on the situation in the coming days, with the PGMOL set to chair a committee to oversee the decision.

A panel made up of former players, managers and referees all vote on whether the decision should’ve been upheld or not.

If the appeal is successful, then Lewis-Skelly will be available to play again in the coming match.

Meanwhile, an unsuccessful appeal could be hit with an extended ban, however that is often in the case of hopeful appeals rather than having an actual case – which Arsenal will feel they have.

Can Myles Lewis-Skelly play in the Champions League after red card?

As it stands, without the overturned decision made, Lewis-Skelly is facing a three-match ban for serious foul play.

The 18-year-old is set to miss some big matches, but that doesn’t include those in the Champions League.

That’s because UEFA and FA rules are deemed separate, with suspensions only carrying over in the domestic or European competitions.

As a result, Lewis-Skelly is set to miss out against Manchester City, Newcastle and Leicester over the different competitions.

It means he could be given the nod to face off with Girona, though it remains to be seen if he will be back to face Man City.
