While fans will be focused on new signings this summer, imminent new Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta’s primary concern will be sorting several contract issues for members of Mikel Arteta’s squad.

The likes of Kieran Tierney, Thomas Partey and Jorginho are all expected to leave when their current deal expires in three months time.

Meanwhile, decisions will have to be made on Takehiro Tomiyasu and Leandro Trossard, who will be entering the final year of their respective contracts at the start of next season.

However, Berta has the more pressing issue of securing the long-term futures of some of Arsenal’s most important players, with the likes of Bukayo Saka, William Saliba and Gabriel Magalahaes all out of contract in 2027.

Arsenal have held talks with Gabriel Magalhaes over new contract

Saliba continues to be linked with Real Madrid, and thus, Arsenal are understood to be looking to accelerate their negotiations over a new contract with the Frenchman.

However, an equally as important negotiation has to take place with Saliba’s imperious centre-back partner, Gabriel.

The Brazilian’s deal expires in the summer of 2027, and he’s currently not earning a wage that reflects his status in the squad.

An ever-present figure in Arteta’s team, Gabriel has started all but two Premier League games for the Gunners this campaign.

Contributing to Arsenal having the best defence in the English top flight, and scoring several important goals at the other end of the pitch, the 27-year-old should be in the top bracket of earners at the Emirates.

However, he’s currently on just £100,000 a week, less than the likes of Mikel Merino, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Tomiyasu.

Meanwhile, Saliba is earning £190,000 a week and is set for a significant pay rise if he agrees a new deal.

Sami Mokbel of the BBC reports that Arsenal have held talks with Gabriel and his representatives over a new contract for the defender.

This is one that Berta has to seal as early as possible, to detract any potential suitors from pursuing the player.

Gabriel Magalhaes is attracting interest from Saudi clubs

Gabriel has been described as a ‘monster’ by David Luiz, and it’s subsequently not a surprise that he’s garnering interest from a host of clubs.

With his contract situation in N5 uncertain, suitors are starting to lurk, as they sense that there could be an opportunity to land one of the most accomplished centre-backs in world football.

Mokbel reports that clubs in Saudi Arabia have expressed interest in signing Gabriel.

Likely to offer the player a lucrative deal, it’ll no doubt be appealing to swap Islington for the the Middle East.

Saudi Pro-League sides have explored the possibility of signing Gabriel in the past, back in the summer of 2023, but a move ultimately didn’t materialise.

Arsenal will have to be extra vigilant this time around, and ensure they secure one of their leaders’ future.
