Arsenal have endured a torrid season when it comes to injuries and player availability.

Arsenal’s injury crisis is the worst since Mikel Arteta took the managerial reigns back in 2020 and have hampered their Premier League title charge whilst still being in with a shout.

After recent surgeries to Kai Havertz and on loan winger Reiss Nelson, it was confirmed that Takehiro Tomiyasu will also undergo knee surgery.

Arsenal have now confirmed the surgery has successfully taken place and have revealed when we may be likely to see Tomiyasu back in a Gunners shirt.

Arsenal reveal Takehiro Tomiyasu injury update

Tomiyasu confirmed on his social media that surgery on his knee was taking place and now the club have itself issued a statement on the injury situation on their official website.

It read: “Takehiro Tomiyasu has undergone a successful surgery on the right knee issue which he first sustained in pre-season.

“Despite an initial surgical procedure in August, followed by a return to full training, and featuring as a substitute in our home Premier League match against Southampton in October, Tomi continued to have issues with his knee, resulting in a further corrective surgical procedure.

“Tomi will now begin his recovery and rehabilitation programme, which is expected to be completed towards the end of this year.”

It means that the Japanese international will miss the entire pre-season campaign at the beginning of the 2025-26 fixture schedule.

Tomiyasu’s injury could scupper Arsenal’s summer transfer plans

Gabriel Jesus suffered an acl injury that has ruled him out for the majority of 2025 along with Tomiyasu and the duo’s absence could have a knock-on effect to the club’s summer transfer plans.

Jesus and Tomiyasu have both been linked with moves away from the Gunners in order to allow further investment into the squad however, their injuries will now scupper any summer transfer.

Tomiyasu has managed just one substitute appearance against Southampton this season for Arsenal and it remains to be seen whether the 26-year-old defender could now hinder the club’s progress.

Arsenal are interested in winger Nico Williams in the summer but know that a few outgoings are also required in order to completely fulfil their transfer plans.
