Arsenal are interested in signing Real Madrid winger Rodrygo this summer, as Mikel Arteta eyes an upgrade on Gabriel Martinelli.
Leandro Trossard is expected to sign a new contract at Arsenal, meaning Martinelli could be on his way out, particularly as it’s well documented that the Gunners want to add a wide forward to Arteta’s ranks.
Nico Williams is Arteta’s favoured target to fill this position in his squad, while the likes of Ademola Lookman, Rafael Leao, and Jamie Gittens have all been mooted as potential options.
Rodrygo has now emerged as a genuine possibility for Arsenal, as Real Madrid contemplate cashing in on the Brazilian and signing a more natural right winger.

Arsenal target Rodrygo drops hint about future
Xabi Alonso waxed lyrical about Rodrygo upon his arrival at the Bernabeu earlier this week, perhaps suggesting that the 24-year-old is more likely to remain with Los Blancos this summer.
However, it’s possible that the tactician was attempting to weaponise his admiration for the player to drive the prospective price tag up.
That said, Rodrygo has now dropped a hint on social media that indicates that he isn’t planning on leaving the Spanish capital anytime soon.
Real Madrid announced the signing of Trent Alexander-Arnold on Friday morning, and Rodrygo responded to the Instagram post confirming the addition with the word, “Wooooow.”
Deployed predominantly on the right wing for Real Madrid, Rodrygo would likely form a partnership with Alexander-Arnold if he remains at the La Liga club.
While the comment doesn’t definitively confirm that the Brazil international isn’t leaving, he’ll be very aware of the reports linking him with a move away, and social media activity like this indicates that he’s trying to dismiss this speculation.

Rodrygo would be an outstanding signing for Arsenal
It seems as though Rodrygo is intent on remaining at Real Madrid and forging his way into Alonso’s plans.
However, Arteta can pitch the idea to Rodrygo that he’ll start more regularly on his natural right side and become a crucial player at Arsenal, rather than merely being a cog in the Real Madrid machine.
The Spaniard has to do everything in his power to sell this vision to the player, given the lack of quality alternative options on the market.
| Rodrygo’s La Liga Statistics 2024/25 | |
| Appearances | 30 |
| Goals | 6 |
| Assists | 5 |
| Shots per 90 | 2.52 |
| Expected Goals per 90 | 0.19 |
| Key Passes per 90 | 2.29 |
| Successful Take-Ons per 90 | 2.29 |
As shown by the data above, Rodrygo is not only a goal threat, but also boasts creative attributes and is an excellent dribbler.
The Gunners need a player with this well-rounded set of attributes, with the likes of Williams and Gittens merely being effective dribblers with limited output in the final third.
