Arsenal will be concerned about Bukayo Saka.

The Arsenal winger picked up a knock whilst on international duty. Bukayo Saka limped off during England’s 2-1 defeat against Greece on Thursday evening.

Saka has now returned to Arsenal where his injury will be thoroughly assessed. However, the Hale end academy graduate’s issue is not thought to be serious, and Mikel Arteta will be optimistic that he can feature for the North London club as soon as they are back in action.

Of course, this is not the only injury concern that Arteta is having to contend with. Club captain Martin Odegaard remains sidelined, whilst Kai Havertz withdrew from the Germany squad due to a knee complaint. Like Saka, it is thought that Havertz will be fit once again when the international break is over, but Odegaard still has some time to wait.

Lee Carsley shares Bukayo Saka statement

Interim England manager Lee Carsley has now given his verdict on Saka’s condition.

As quoted by The Mirror, the Three Lions boss told the press ahead of his side’s clash with Finland: “Bukayo would have been close but it would have been unfair to take a risk with him. He’s a positive person and I expect him to be fine.”

The fact that Saka would have potentially been passed fit to face Finland will fill Arsenal fans with confidence that the forward will make a full recovery swiftly.

Arsenal will be impressed by Carsley caution

Not only will Arteta be pleased that Saka seems relatively undamaged, he will also be delighted by the manner in which Carsley has handled this situation.

With his England team having just slumped to a dismal defeat against Greece, the coach might have been tempted to field the strongest possible XI against the Fins, forcing Saka into the side in search of a response and a resounding victory.

However, the Gunners will appreciate that Carsley has taken a far more sensible approach, setting the needs of the player above and beyond his own concerns. This kind of management will help to protect Saka from unnecessary injuries and being burned out by the gruelling domestic and international fixture schedule ahead.
