Arsenal legend Paul Merson has a transfer prediction involving a sensational return to North London for Harry Kane.

Mikel Arteta’s desire to sign a striker in January was not acted upon as the Gunners failed to complete any business before deadline day.

Now, the Spaniard must combat the remainder of the season with limited options in attack as the Arsenal squad continues to be stretched.

Several striker targets are on Arsenal’s radar but, all eyes are now on the summer transfer window after the option for a mid-season purchase did not arise.

Paul Merson shares Harry Kane to Arsenal transfer prediction

Alexander Isak is Arsenal’s dream transfer target, with links to Benjamin Sesko also surfacing in January.

While the two rising stars in today’s game are an option, Arsenal icon Paul Merson believes there’s a better option for the Gunners.

Speaking on Sky Sports News, Merson was informed of Harry Kane’s release clause at Bayern Munich, which could see his £67m purchase option go down to £54m in 12 months time.

“He’ll be going to Arsenal then, Arsenal will buy him. £64m why not? Sol Campbell did. If he’s available, you’ve got to weigh it up,” Merson said with confidence.

The club legend then explained his bold statement, putting into context what Arsenal truly need if they are to win the Premier League title sooner rather than later.

“People will go ‘he’s this age, that age’ but, Arsenal need now.

“People said about Salah and I wouldn’t give Salah a three-year contract, I’d give him one or two. That’s different because Liverpool will probably go and win the league this year. But if Arsenal want to win the league, you’ve got to take a chance, buy someone that’s proven.”

Merson continued by admitting that he ‘wouldn’t be surprised’ to see Arsenal eyeing Kane in the near future, making a cheeky swipe at Spurs when doing so.

“I wouldn’t be surprised. When you’re Harry Kane there and you can go for £64m, there’s only a couple teams that can buy him. There’s only a couple of teams. Arsenal, Man City won’t buy him.

“That’s it, maybe Tottenham but, he’ll have to win something at Bayern to go back to Tottenham because if he doesn’t win anything at Bayern Munich, you’re not going to go back to Tottenham to win something.”

Harry Kane would be a dream signing for Arsenal

If there’s any striker in the world that Arsenal fear, it’s Kane, who terrorised the Gunners during his time at Spurs.

In his career, there are only two teams that the Englishman has scored against more times than his former rivals, telling of why Arsenal might be lured by his release clause.

Of course, there’s the sizeable hurdle in the fact that the 31-year-old is a Tottenham legend, but as Merson raised, stranger things have happened – enter Sol Campbell.

It would be a remarkable transfer for the Gunners to pull off, and one that would shock the footballing world, making it rather unimaginable but, by no means impossible.
