Arsenal are set to face one of their summer transfer targets as the Premier League kicks off with a trip to Old Trafford.

Arsenal’s midfield impressed fans during their final pre-season victory over Athletic Bilbao as Martin Zubimendi and Declan Rice showed early signs of a formidable partnership.

The Gunners will be hoping that continues to flourish as they take on Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United in the curtain raiser this weekend.

Benjamin Sesko is expected to make his debut against Arsenal and after talks were held with the Slovenian over a summer transfer to North London, comparisons will be made with the man Andrea Berta signed instead.

Benjamin Sesko says heading is one of his biggest strengths

William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes will have to be at their best at Old Trafford as Sesko is set to join a new-look front three at United, including Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.

Upon arriving at the club, Sesko was asked what he thought his three biggest attributes were and replied with: “Speed, power-kicking and heading.”

Viktor Gyokeres got off the mark for the Gunners with a sumptuous header against Athletic Bilbao and is expected to lead the line against his former manager Amorim.

Gyokeres has a weakness with heading but after demonstrating his abilities at the Emirates Stadium in the pre-season friendly, the Swede will be hoping to further outshine Sesko in the opener.

There has been much debate over whether Gyokeres can fit into Arsenal’s system given their reliance on crosses into the box.

However, he has already proven that he can head the ball when needed and his pace and power means he will create all sorts of chances for himself this season.

Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko comparisons will continue all season

It was a huge decision from Berta at the start of the summer to choose Gyokeres over Sesko, especially given that Mikel Arteta’s preference was the Slovenian.

It will be intriguing to see how both players adapt to life in English football and of course, comparisons will be made over their ability to lead the line for their respective clubs.

Ally McCoist has backed Gyokeres to score more goals than Sesko and Chelsea’s Joao Pedro this season given that the Gunners are likely to create more chances for their new striker.

Arteta will be hoping that his side can find the right formula in their attack to help Gyokeres silence any doubters and score plenty of goals in a winning cause this campaign.
