‘Buy some players’ – Ian Wright sends clear transfer demand to Arsenal hierarchy with January window claim

Arsenal icon Ian Wright expressed his concern over the Gunners’ title chances following the draw against Aston Villa.

Arsenal drew 2-2 with Aston Villa in a thrilling, yet deflating, contest at the Emirates.

Mikel Arteta watched his side lose a two-goal lead, as Unai Emery left his former home as the more satisfied manager.

Arsenal’s squad depth became another topic of conversation as William Saliba missed out due to injury, with pressure mounting as the Premier League title race is very much in Liverpool’s hands.

Ian Wright sends transfer demand to Arsenal board

After the draw, Arteta compared Arsenal’s squad depth to Liverpool’s in what could be perceived as a plea to those above him.

As has been the case for the majority of the season, Arsenal are in desperate need of attacking signings, with club icon Ian Wright the latest to express his concern.

“The underlying factor is the manager needs help,” Wright told Premier League Productions.

“You look at the benches; you look at who they’re able to bring on. It just looks like he needs help now. They need help. We have to buy some players. We have to. Even when Saka was fit, we needed another forward.”

It’s not the first time that Wright has challenged the Arsenal board about transfers, as the club legend and pundit went on to predict the ‘danger’ the Gunners could face.

“We need to get bodies into that team to help them. They look knackered after a while there as well. They need help. We are very close to it being in danger of fizzling out.”

Wright’s concerns were concluded by his doubts over the Premier League title race if the Gunners do not recruit new players before the end of the month.

Arsenal’s lack of depth is not sustainable

Thomas Frank believes Liverpool are the favourites to win the title, something that can’t be argued as the Reds sit six points and a game in hand above Arsenal.

It’s a dire shame for Arsenal, who finished second to Manchester City in the previous two campaigns, with the failures of the summer transfer window proving to be costly.

Against Villa, Arsenal struggled without Saliba, with the reshuffle at the back not paying off for Arteta, as Thomas Partey was slammed for his performance.

In the manager’s defence, there’s little room to manoeuvre at present due to lack of resources and tired legs, putting emphasis on the need to sign additional talent this winter.
