Chris Sutton admits he’s already changed his mind on the Premier League title race because of Arsenal

Arsenal have given Chris Sutton a lot to think about just seven games into the 2025/26 Premier League season.

Arsenal head into the October international break sitting top of the Premier League, leapfrogging Liverpool.

Arne Slot’s champions ran out of luck out on matchday six, losing to Crystal Palace and then going on to lose in the dying embers against Chelsea.

As a result, there’s been a lot of talk about whether Arsenal can win the Premier League, with Chris Sutton the latest to speak on the matter.

Chris Sutton thinks Arsenal will win the Premier League

It seems crazy that the Premier League title race is being spoken about with 31 games left to play, but that’s how competitive the competition is.

After watching the Gunners beat West Ham, Alan Shearer said he’s been ‘mightily impressed’ by Arsenal, but hasn’t yet changed his stance that Liverpool are title favourites.

Sutton, on the other hand, has already changed his mind on who is most likely to be top of the table in May.

“It’s Arsenal’s title for me,” Sutton said on the BBC’s 606 Football Phone In

“I’ve changed my mind since the start of the season. I think Arsenal will win the league.”

It was only last month that Sutton fancied Liverpool to beat Arsenal to the title, but the pundit’s mind has been changed by the form Mikel Arteta’s side are showing.

There’s still a long way to go, but Arsenal certainly look like the real deal, despite not hitting full stride yet.

There is no room for error in the Premier League

If anything is going to help win Arteta the Premier League, it’s how good Arsenal’s defence is.

Tony Cascarino expects Arsenal to concede the fewest goals in the league, but that won’t necessarily be enough.

In the 2023/24 season, Arsenal scored as many as 91 goals and conceded only 29, just three more than the Invincibles did, but still missed out on the title by two points.

While managers will stress that tunnel vision is important, it’s impossible for Premier League clubs not to factor in what fellow competitors are doing.

For example, Liverpool had a near-perfect season in 2018/19, losing just once over the entire campaign, but Manchester City beat them to the title.

There’s no room for error in the Premier League, arguably now more than ever, as every club has a point to prove in the top-flight.
