Chris Sutton gives fresh Premier League title prediction after ‘brilliant’ Arsenal display

The Premier League is still settling into a rhythm for the new season, but patterns are starting to emerge as to which teams will be competitive.

After taking nine points from a possible 12, Arsenal are expecting to be around the top by the end of the season.

Mikel Arteta has guided Arsenal to three consecutive second-placed finishes, a feat only ever managed by Arsene Wenger.

He then went on to win the Premier League the season after, something the Gunners will be hoping to recreate this time around.

If there is one challenge standing in the way of Arsenal, it will be Liverpool.

The Reds won the league last season under Arne Slot and have since pushed on with a huge record-breaking transfer window to strengthen their options.

As the two teams continue to battle it out early on, Chris Sutton has reviewed what he’s seen from both teams and has given an updated prediction on the eventual title winners.

Chris Sutton still backs Liverpool to win the Premier League despite Arsenal’s start

The Premier League title race could be a closely-fought contest this year, one in which the team from Merseyside have an early advantage.

Liverpool’s win over Arsenal late in the game at Anfield has already given them a three-point buffer, but they have been far from convincing.

Slot’s team have been winning games late on, with fine margins deciding the start of their campaign so far.

While Arteta has that blemish on his record, his side has looked more assured in their performances so far.

Despite that, Sutton is still leaning towards Liverpool winning the league, as he said on BBC Sport’s 606: “Arsenal were brilliant yesterday, weren’t they?

“But just got a sneaking feeling when Liverpool, you know, playing like this, still getting the three points. It’s their title,”

While it is certainly Arsenal who have looked the better team so far, there is one concern about Liverpool that could take the title out of their hands.

Liverpool will only get better as Arsenal play Premier League title catch-up

The Premier League title certainly isn’t won or lost at this point in the season, but Arsenal are now playing catch-up to Liverpool.

Fortunately, there is still another head-to-head, but the Gunners won’t want to go into that one as a must-win.

There is some hope that other clubs in the league could do them a favour, and a few have come close.

Burnley, Newcastle and Bournemouth all nearly took points from the Reds, suggesting that they could drop points soon if they don’t improve.

The main concern for Arsenal, however, is that Liverpool will only get better.

The Anfield outfit still have Alexander Isak to introduce into the team, while the likes of Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez are all settling into life at the club.

Once those tactical instructions become second nature, it could be difficult to stop Liverpool in their tracks, given the individual quality they have.

It remains to be seen just how much they can improve, but Arsenal will be hoping they can drop points while they look quite as vulnerable as they do.
