Arsenal fans are likely to see a bit more of their new signing Cristhian Mosquera in the coming weeks.

William Saliba’s injury return timeframe is unclear after conflicting reports coming out of France following an ankle injury that saw him forced off in the opening minutes of the defeat to Liverpool.

Saliba was replaced by Cristhian Mosquera during that clash and Arsenal’s new £13m signing impressed with aggression in his defensive work, coupled with composure on the ball.

Martin Odegaard has been impressed with Mosquera and how quickly he has settled into life at the Emirates Stadium. Now, the Spanish defender has revealed another aspect that has helped his start at the Gunners.

Cristhian Mosquera helped by Spanish language spoken at Arsenal

Speaking to Spanish publication ABC Futbol, Mosquera has explained how settling into life at Arsenal has been made easier by the Spaniards in the squad.

The likes of David Raya and Martin Zubimendi have helped the young defender overcome the language barrier upon arriving in London.

Mosquera stated: “Yes, it makes everything much easier. And it’s not just the Spaniards who speak Spanish, but many other classmates as well.

“The group has welcomed me well; it’s also young and very cheerful, very family-oriented. I’m very happy.”

Brazilian teammates Gabriel Magalhaes and Gabriel Martinelli will also be able to communicate with the defender, as well as, of course getting instructions from Mikel Arteta.

A simple barrier such as language helps a footballer settle into new surroundings and brings clarity to the thought process and what the manager wants from a player moving forward – Mosquera clearly feels he has that.

Mikel Arteta should start Cristhian Mosquera over Ben White for Nottingham Forest clash

Arteta has a decision to make at centre half in the absence of Saliba as to whether he continues with Mosquera or brings in Ben White.

White is expected to return from injury for the clash with Ange Postecoglou’s side but has become accustomed to a right back role.

After such an impressive start to life at Arsenal against Liverpool, Mosquera deserves the opportunity to continue to prove that he has the capabilities to replace Saliba.

Nottingham Forest are likely to start with Chris Wood up top and Mosquera would relish the physical challenge the striker would pose.
