David Ornstein provides Arsenal recruitment update

Speaking on a Q&A via The Athletic, journalist Ornstein has provided an update around Arsenal’s intentions to improve their recruitment around top academy talent.

Ornstein stated: “There are lots of good intentions around this internally but actions speak louder than words and so far there hasn’t been a huge amount of action.

“There are some early signs of that changing and there is impressive work being done in preparation, but it is all about execution. Other clubs are illustrating this and let’s see if Arsenal can step it up in the summer.”

Hale End is having a remarkable season with the emergence of Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly and the club want to attract further talent from around the world to the academy.

Importance of academy talent highlighted this season for Arsenal

Nobody could have foreseen Arsenal’s injury crisis this season but the decimation of Mikel Arteta’s squad, particularly in forward areas has highlighted the importance of producing academy talent.

Arsenal did not recruit for the first-team squad in January and have instead relied on the likes of Nwaneri to pull them through a tough situation.

Whether it was the correct decision is debatable however, what cannot be argued is that Nwaneri is gaining valuable experience during his run in the team that will only enhance his value and worth to the club.

The likes of Nathan Butler-Oyedeji could also feature from now until the end of the season for Arteta’s side whilst the talented pair of Max Dowman and Marli Salmon are also making waves in the academy as the next stars to begin to fight their way in the first-team picture.
