Arsenal had a disappointing day in the office against Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup.
The Gunners crashed out of the competition after losing the second leg 2-0, thus giving the Magpies a 4-0 win on aggregate.
Mikel Arteta is a fantastic tactician and rarely ever gets things wrong. But, he will have to admit that Eddie Howe got the better of him on Wednesday night.
Newcastle deservedly won the game, and an unwanted statistic has now emerged that Declan Rice will not like.
Incredible Declan Rice streak at Arsenal comes to an end
Rice is Arteta’s best-ever signing at Arsenal – we don’t think anyone even comes close.
The Englishman, since his club-record move from West Ham United, has barely put a foot wrong, and he is one of the biggest reasons why the Gunners are so strong.
Rice started in the middle of the park against Newcastle United on Wednesday night, and he didn’t have an awful game by any means.
But, it was clear to see that he wasn’t at his best, and unfortunately for him, one stat that he has managed to avoid in Arsenal’s colours will go on his record.
Rice lost possession to Anthony Gordon after Fabian Schar pressed him, and the Newcastle attacker put the ball in the back of the net.
That action by Rice will go down as an error leading to a goal, which would be his first as an Arsenal player in any competition since joining the club.

Declan Rice’s error was because of David Raya
David Raya is the best goalkeeper in the Premier League by a distance.
The Spaniard has been unbelievable for the Gunners this season, but for whatever reason, he looked like he was in a hurry to get rid of the ball at times on Wednesday night.
Raya did that once early in the game and got away with it, but he tried to repeat that in the second half.
Schar was on Rice’s back, but the £27 million goalkeeper still decided to pass the ball to him. The Arsenal number 41 was pressed from behind and lost the ball to Gordon, who scored.
It was uncharacteristic of both Rice and Raya in that sequence of play – it could’ve been avoided. But, it was just one of those days for Arsenal and they paid for it.
