Arsenal are getting used to how their new sporting director operates in the transfer market.

Andrea Berta has sent shockwaves around Europe for his aggressive approach to the start of the transfer window.

Arsenal confirmed the signing of Kepa Arrizabalaga as Berta’s first deal of the window and the Italian is eyeing further incomings to strengthen Mikel Arteta’s squad.

Berta is operating differently to Edu Gaspar in the way he conducts his transfer negotiations. It was an adjustment Arsenal have had to make following Edu’s departure and his interim successor is now wanted by a Premier League rival.

Newcastle want to appoint Jason Ayto as sporting director

Arsenal fans were pleased to see Jason Ayto depart the club following a disastrous January transfer window as the club’s interim sporting director.

The Gunners were desperate for a striker amid a number of injuries to the forward line and Ayto failed to deliver, sparking huge frustration among the supporters.

Following Berta’s arrival at the Gunners, Ayto was placed on gardening leave but could make his return to football with Newcastle United as per the Daily Telegraph.

Newcastle parted ways with Paul Mitchell and are now looking for somebody to come into the vacant role and work closely alongside manager Eddie Howe.

Ayto was ‘widely respected’ at Arsenal and worked closely with Edu. He is now hoping to use that experience to land his first permanent sporting director role.

Jason Ayto’s appointment at Newcastle could be good news for Mikel Arteta

Arsenal are yet to make a firm decision in their pursuit of a striker this summer amid interest in both Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres.

Arteta’s dream signing is Alexander Isak and one of Ayto’s first priorities upon arriving at St James’s Park would be to sort the future of the Swedish striker.

Isak is said to be open to leaving Tyneside, however, any deal for the striker would have to be above £150m.

Should Ayto be appointed this summer, Arteta will be hoping that good past relationships between the Gunners and Ayto could play a useful role in luring the forward to the Emirates Stadium.
