Arsenal’s twists and turns of the summer transfer window have well and truly begun.
Portuguese media claimed Arsenal had reached an ‘agreement’ to sign Viktor Gyokeres only for attentions to now be turning towards another striker target.
Andrea Berta has made ‘contact’ over Benjamin Sesko with the RB Leipzig striker having a £67m release clause and the new sporting director is eager to press on with a deal.
Berta knows the importance of his first summer at the Emirates Stadium but will be moving ahead with plans with Jason Ayto after reports have emerged he has departed from the club.

Arsenal fans react to Jason Ayto’s departure
As per the Athletic, Ayto has left his role as assistant sporting director after taking interim charge of the sporting director role following Edu Gaspar’s departure.
Arsenal fans have taken to X to react to the news and it is fair to say Ayto’s failures in the past January transfer window have not been forgotten.
One fan wrote: “Best news I’ve heard today! This fraud had a chance to leave his mark in the January window but decided to please the bosses. I still remember those PR articles saying how happy they were of him.”
Another fan wrote: “Everyone will remember him as the failed interim. Can’t even sign a damn striker. Useless.”
However, there was one fan who took a slightly different view to the news, they wrote: “Big blow this. Ayto was Edu’s right hand who alongside Mikel led the transformation of the team from mid table to constantly competing for biggest honours. His tenure as interim was short and the lack of activity in Jan clearly a club strategy not entirely an interim’s decision.”
Pressure on for Andrea Berta to deliver this summer at Arsenal
Berta has sent shockwaves around Europe for his approach so far to the summer transfer window and while it is unclear whether he had any influence in Ayto’s departure, his impact is already being seen.
The pressure is on this summer to deliver the firepower that Mikel Arteta desperately needs to end the club’s trophy drought next season.
Arsenal are clearly on the hunt for a striker with both Sesko and Gyokeres linked but a winger is also a top priority and Nico Williams and Rodrygo top that list.
If Berta can land those targets he will go a long way to earning the trust of the Arsenal supporters and perhaps help to deliver a long overdue Premier League title.
