Arsenal have had a number of players who have promised so much in their time at the club then go on to endure tough periods elsewhere in the Premier League.
Eddie Nketiah has struggled at Crystal Palace this season, while Emile Smith Rowe has found himself in and out of the Fulham side in recent weeks.
Less recently, the likes of Calum Chambers, Rob Holding and Ainsley Maitland-Niles have found it difficult to make their way in the English top flight and been forced to pivot to lower levels.
However, one man in particular has experienced a dire campaign and now faces a summer where he’ll be desperate to find a new place to ply his trade.

Aaron Ramsdale close to setting Premier League relegation record
Southampton’s relegation from the Premier League was officially confirmed this weekend, as they lost 3-1 away at Totttenham.
The relegation means Arsenal won’t receive an additional £1 million for Aaron Ramsdale from the Saints, with this condition included in the player’s move to St Mary’s.
The south coast club losing their top-flight status also means Ramsdale has now been relegated from the Premier League for the third time in his career.
Sent back to the Championship with Bournemouth in 2020 and Sheffield United in 2021, the shot-stopper completed the relegation hat-trick on Sunday.
He’s now one more from equaling the second-most Premier League relegations, and two from matching the most.
Hermann Hreidarsson and Nathan Blake currently hold the record with five each, with the former suffering the feat with five different clubs.
Depending on where Ramsdale ends up, it’s not implausible to suggest that he could enter this bracket and attain the record across the rest of his career.
| Most Premier League relegations | |
| Player | No. of Relegations |
| Hermann Hreidarsson | 5 |
| Nathan Blake | 5 |
| Rob Green | 4 |
| Sebastian Bassong | 4 |
| Nigel Quashie | 4 |
| Marcus Bent | 4 |
| Marc Edworthy | 4 |
| Aaron Ramsdale | 3 |

Aaron Ramsdale was unlucky at Arsenal
While things have turned sour for Ramsdale since his Emirates departure, he hasn’t exactly been helped by playing in a diabolical Southampton side.
He was also unfortunate in his time in North London, after establishing himself as the club’s first choice after initially not being welcomed to the club by most fans.
Putting together two impressive campaigns in between the sticks for the Gunners, the England international was eventually replaced by a better goalkeeper.
David Raya was signed from Brentford, and the Spaniard offered more appealing attributes to Mikel Arteta.
Boasting superior distribution, greater sweeping ability and better cross-claiming, Ramsdale was unfortunate that Arsenal found a market opportunity to snap up one of Europe’s most accomplished keepers.
