Tottenham dealt Arsenal a blow on matchday 31, a blow that will cost the Gunners as much as £1m.

The 31st instalment of Premier League action this season was eventful for both North London clubs, as Arsenal drew against Everton and Spurs won a league match.

For the first time since February, Tottenham won a Premier League match, beating Southampton 3-1 to move up to 14th in the table.

Ange Postecoglou breathed a sigh of relief as Spurs collected three points, and by doing so, denied their biggest rivals a six-figure profit.

Tottenham relegate Southampton and Aaron Ramsdale

If there’s anything that has made Arsenal’s injury-ridden season easier to bear, it’s been Tottenham’s woeful campaign.

Arsenal celebrated St Totteringham’s Day at the earliest point in 16 years, confirming that they will finish above their rivals once again.

With home and away wins against Spurs this season, North London is unquestionably red; however, that’s not stopped the Lilywhites from handing the Gunners a blow.

By beating Southampton, Spurs confirmed the Saints’ relegation to the Championship, which saw former Gunner Aaron Ramsdale get relegated with his club.

Though Southampton going down has been on the cards for some time, it was Spurs who made it official, subsequently costing Arsenal £1m.

If the Saints avoided relegation, Arsenal would’ve received an additional £1m from Southampton for Ramsdale, a proposition that was thwarted by Spurs.

Tottenham ensured that Mikel Arteta won’t have an additional £1m to spend in the summer transfer window, sending Ramsdale packing to the Championship.

Premier League title challenger to the Championship for Ramsdale

Though Arsenal won’t get the £1m bonus from the goalkeeper’s transfer, it’s expected that the Gunners will benefit from Ramsdale’s next move.

It’s understood that the North Londoners have a sell-on clause for the shot-stopper, which is expected to come into play in the summer as clubs look to take advantage of Southampton’s relegation.

Ramsdale will be looking for a new club in the transfer window, with another move on the cards for the goalkeeper, who has experienced quite the fall from grace.

It was only two seasons ago that the ‘keeper was Arsenal’s firm number one and challenging for the Premier League title, a career high that was ended by Arteta.

Though Arteta made the right decision with Ramsdale, it only emphasises how far the shot-stopper has fallen, going from fighting at the top of the table to being a part of one of the Premier League’s worst-ever sides.

Where Ramsdale goes will be made clear in the summer, with his next steps being something that Arsenal will pay close attention to.
