Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta gave an injury update on Bukayo Saka after the North London Derby win.

Arsenal beat Tottenham 2-1 at the Emirates to do the double over their bitter rivals in the 2024/25 campaign.

It was however the hosts that had to come from behind, as Son Heung-min opened the scoring against the run of play.

A Dominic Solanke own goal and a Leandro Trossard strike won the North London Derby for Arsenal, who collected a much-needed three points.

Mikel Arteta shares Bukayo Saka injury update

Winning the North London Derby is one of the greatest feelings football can offer for both Arsenal and Tottenham, with the Gunners victorious once more.

The win was somewhat expected, considering that Spurs have not won at the Emirates since 2011 although, Arteta’s squad certainly had to work for the victory.

As well as playing a spirited Spurs side, the hosts had to contend with several injury woes, with Gabriel Jesus’ absence honoured before kick-off.

Another missing player was Bukayo Saka, who was at the Emirates on crutches as he continues to recover from surgery on his hamstring.

After the game, Arteta was asked about the injuries to his squad, where he revealed a worrying update on Saka, via TNT Sports.

“We lost two big players in Bukayo that could be out for up to three months so that’s a long time and Gabby that’s gonna be out for a long, long, long time.”

The Arsenal manager confirmed that Saka could be far from returning to action, in what is an update that no fan would have wanted to hear.

Arteta hints at Arsenal transfer hope

While the update on Saka was a concern, there was an uplifting narrative to the news, as Arteta shed some light on Arsenal’s plans for the January transfer window.

The boss was asked whether signing a player this month is a possibility for the Gunners, to which he responded, “We’re gonna try, for sure.”

“We are actively looking, we have lost two very very important players. We had 14 players in the squad and we play every three days so we will try.”

Arsenal have been backed to sign a forward this month, with the transfer window set to heat up as we reach the midway stage.

Unfortunately, the positive transfer news comes at the expense of two superb players in Saka and Jesus, who will be sorely missed for the foreseeable future.
