Former Arsenal player says his sources have now told him something really interesting about Viktor Gyokeres

After just two matches in the Premier League, there is already plenty of focus being put on Viktor Gyokeres at Arsenal.

The striker has been heralded as a potential game-changer for the Gunners, who have missed a clinical edge up front in recent seasons.

The form of Viktor Gyokeres during his spell at Sporting CP certainly suggests he is capable of scoring plenty, but how well that translates to the Premier League is unclear.

A difficult debut for Gyokeres had brought about questions, which he later quietened with a brace against Leeds United.

Now, after that start, it seems as though Arsenal have made a decision surrounding the striker that could change the course of the season.

Adrian Clarke claims Viktor Gyokeres has been given penalty duties at Arsenal

After two games in the Premier League, there is still a lot to learn about Gyokeres and how he fits in with everything.

So far, many have seen one of his strengths in terms of running with the ball into the box, but a weakness in that he needs a little extra time and space in some scenarios.

However, another key strength that has been seen already is his penalties.

Gyokeres scored a penalty late in the win over Leeds, smashing an effort into the back of the net emphatically to secure another big win.

With Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard injured earlier in the match, and unable to continue, it means the responsibilities naturally fell the way of the Swedish international.

However, former player Adrian Clarke seemingly believes that the duties have been handed over to Gyokeres full-time.

He said on the Handbrake Off podcast: “I heard that he has been given it, but I don’t know; that is unofficial. But yeah, I have heard from a couple of people that he’s been told he can have it.”

It would certainly back up the claim from Mikel Arteta that Gyokeres is the best penalty taker currently at the club.

It remains to be seen if that is the official decision, but it could swing things in Arsenal’s favour this season.

Viktor Gyokeres’ penalty ability could give Arsenal an edge this season

Penalties are a difficult scenario to replicate in games, as there is no guaranteed way to win them consistently.

As a result, it’s tough to tell Arsenal players to simply win them to allow Gyokeres to find the back of the net.

However, his ability from the spot does give the Gunners a slight edge in the moments that matter.

A great conversion rate from the spot suggests he can deliver in the moments that will decide the campaign.

Just looking back at last season and the Manchester United FA Cup clash is the perfect example of this.

Had Gyokeres been available, perhaps Arsenal would have progressed and made their way into the next round, and then who knows where from there.

He could have the final say this time around, which will be important for the season as a whole.
