As Arsenal continue to struggle to find the back of the net due to the lack of forward options at Mikel Arteta’s disposal, one former striker is pulling up trees elsewhere.
The Gunners have failed to score in each of their last two games, and have resorted to deploying midfielder Mikel Merino up front.
The North London club opted not to aggressively pursue a number nine in the January transfer window, which has come back to bite them as Kai Havertz has been ruled out for the season.
Arteta could’ve had a ready-made striker, who is currently scoring goals for fun, available to him, had the Emirates hierarchy not opted to sell the player last summer.

Former Arsenal star Mika Biereth scores third hat-trick in seven games for Monaco
Arsenal sold Mika Biereth to Sturm Graz for £4 million in July, after he’d scored nine goals in 22 appearances for the Austrian outfit on loan last season.
After an electric first half of the campaign in the Austrian Bundesliga, Monaco opted to splash £10.8 million on Biereth in January.
While Arsenal earned £2 million in the move through a sell-on clause, Arteta will be ruining the decision to let him leave so flippantly, as the Dane certainly would’ve been useful during this moment of crisis for the Spaniard’s side.
Biereth has taken French football by storm, netting his third hat-trick in Ligue 1 in just seven games.
The first came in a 4-2 victory over Auxerre at the start of February, before he added another to his CV in a 7-1 thrashing of Nantes two weeks ago.
On Friday night, the 22-year-old became the first player in 70 years in Ligue 1 to score three hat-tricks in his first seven games in the competition, scoring all the goals in Monaco’s 3-0 win over Reims.
The top-scoring player in Europe’s top five leagues in 2025, Arsenal will be sighing every time the starlet finds the back of the net.
While all three strikes were relatively simple finishes, someone getting on the end of moves and being alive inside of the box is exactly what the Gunners need right now.

Mika Biereth’s statistics are frightening
Netting ten goals in eleven games for thus far, Biereth has certainly enjoyed a sensational opening month at his new club.
The sample size remains limited, and it’s possible that this form is something of a purple patch.
However, his data from the first half of the season in Austria was similarly impressive, which points to Biereth being a striker who is developing at a rapid rate.
| Biereth’s Austrian Bundesliga Statistics 2024/25 | |
| Appearances | 16 |
| Goals | 11 |
| Assists | 4 |
| Shots per 90 | 2.56 |
| Shots on Target per 90 | 1.7 |
| Fouls Drawn per 90 | 1.13 |
Taking 2.56 shots per 90 minutes in the Austrian top flight, he’s managing over four in Ligue 1.
This volume of efforts on goal is outstanding for his striker of his age and suggests he’ll keep scoring goals at a reliable rate, particularly with his expected goals numbers also looking very healthy.
Arsenal fans were fretting over losing Folarin Balogun in the summer of 2023, but it could be Monaco’s other young number nine who proves to be the major loss in the long-term.
