Ex-PGMOL boss slams Arsenal referee after Fulham error

Arsenal may have been handed a poor decision by referee Chris Kavanagh in their draw with Fulham, according to an ex-PGMOL boss.

The Gunners were held to a frustrating draw away at Craven Cottage, where the Cottagers managed to eke out a 1-1 draw.

It means Mikel Arteta’s side are still chasing down Liverpool, though they may be left slightly frustrated a penalty decision wasn’t awarded their way.

Former PGMOL chief Keith Hackett was far from happy with how Arsenal players were being wrestled with during set-pieces.

He wrote on X: “Wrestled and pushed off the field of play – a penalty kick@offence but no one cares. Rugby style play is now allowed in our game of Football and the norm thanks to weak officiating.”

While Arsenal may be left frustrated, there may be a feeling that they should’ve done more to score in open play regardless of the decision.

Dan Ashworth to Arsenal could rely on one key man

Arsenal’s hunt for a new sporting director may have taken a slight twist in recent days, with a new name now available in the job market.

Dan Ashworth’s exit from Manchester United came as a slight surprise, just five months after he took the job at Old Trafford.

However, with him now available, there is the possibility of making the move to the Emirates Stadium as a replacement to Edu.

Should that surprise switch come through, it may be down to Richard Garlick, one of the current directors at the club.

Garlick worked with Ashworth during their days at West Brom, which could help push through a deal to Arsenal.

Gary Neville frustrated by Declan Rice at Arsenal

Former Man United star Gary Neville has revealed his frustration with Declan Rice after the Arsenal star’s late display in the draw with Fulham.

The Gunners were searching for a winner until late in the game, but they were unable to find it, having to settle for a point.

Neville was left particularly frustrated with Rice and the time it took for him to set himself up for a corner.

Speaking on NBC, he said: “Their [Arsenal’s] play is good, their general structure of a game in terms of them moving forward is good but they have such an emphasis on the set-pieces, they take such an age to take them as well.

“Declan Rice, I was actually urging him with five, six minutes to go, he was walking over, ambling over, which is what they do to set up these corners.

“But you need a goal and there’s got to be a desperation and an urgency in making sure that they realise these are big moments.”
