Gabriel Jesus says he kept making three mistakes at Arsenal, that’s why his form was so bad

Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus has turned his form around recently, with goals not the only change to his game.

Arguably, Jesus was one of Arsenal’s worst players of 2024, spending the majority of the calendar year shy in front of goal.

Just as Jesus was prompted to leave Arsenal, the Brazilian changed the minds of his critics, scoring five goals in a matter of days against Crystal Palace. 

Since then, Mikel Arteta has displayed great trust in his striker, who has remained in the starting XI with a point to prove.

Gabriel Jesus reveals change amid recent form

Things can change in an instant in football, as Arsenal are realising the hard way, seeing Bukayo Saka sidelined for weeks with a hamstring injury.

On a more positive note, change can appear surprisingly in more productive ways, as Jesus has experience with his form.

Arsenal legend Martin Keown admitted he’s seen a ‘big change’ in Jesus, which many would agree with.

For the player himself, a lot has happened behind the scenes to revive his Premier League career. 

The 27-year-old outlined ‘three things’ he struggled with amid his scoring drought, noting them as hurdles he’s now overcome.

“Three things were difficult for me: food, sleep and treatment,” Jesus told ESPN. 

“Even massage, which was always difficult for me, I’m young and I said I didn’t need a massage. I used to sleep very irregularly, my diet is now more regular too.”

Arsenal’s number nine then went on to describe the tweaks he’s made as a ‘huge difference’, before revealing arguably the biggest change that’s been noticed from him.

“That makes a huge difference, and the confidence of being on the field.”

Jesus’ form since Crystal Palace goals 

When Arteta named the forward in the starting XI to face Palace in the EFL Cup quarter-final, there was a feeling among fans that this was one of Jesus’ final chances to impress. 

The Brazilian understood the assignment and scored a hat-trick, made even more special as before the night, Jesus hadn’t scored at the Emirates in over a year.

Since then, the 27-year-old has scored a further three goals, another two coming against the Eagles in the Premier League, and one coming instinctively against Brentford. 

Amid Arsenal’s ongoing injury crisis in attack, the bar continues to rise, with Jesus’ form not only a positive but more of an essentiality at this moment in time.
