Arsenal signed Viktor Gyokeres in the summer to add a top-quality striker to their ranks, but Gabriel Martinelli thinks the Gunners had one of the best the whole time.

Martinelli addressed the media ahead of Arsenal’s clash with Club Brugge in the Champions League.

Before Mikel Arteta shared a squad injury update, the Brazilian took part in the press conference, where he spoke highly of one of his teammates.

Martinelli has a point to prove against Club Brugge, and he’s not the only one eager to make an impact, as Gabriel Jesus has re-entered the fold.

Gabriel Martinelli calls Gabriel Jesus one of the best strikers in the world

Arsenal took advantage of a new UEFA rule that states that clubs can make a change to their squad in the event of injury.

Max Dowman is set to be out for weeks, prompting Arsenal to replace him in the squad with Jesus.

It’s a huge boost for Arsenal, who, in Martinelli’s eyes, have added one of the world’s best to their Champions League squad.

In the press conference, Martinelli was asked about Jesus’ return to the team.

“It’s really good, I love him! He’s one of the best strikers in the world for me, not just on the pitch but off it too.”

Martinelli’s praise was telling of how highly rated the 28-year-old is in North London, with the Gunners sharing a similar view.

Arsenal also have full faith in Jesus’ ability, maintaining that the forward has a role to play this season due to the fact that he offers something no one else can.

The Brazilian has a tremendous record in the competition, having contributed to 33 goals in 51 appearances for Manchester City and Arsenal.

There’s very much a sense of unfinished business adorning the 2022 signing right now, as he eyes a statement comeback from a lengthy injury.
