Gary Neville makes Arsenal title prediction U-turn in surprise claim about Spurs

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has now made a huge claim about Arsenal’s bitter local rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

Gary Neville previously tipped Arsenal to be crowned Premier League champions at the end of the current season.

The Gunners emerged as surprise title contenders last season, leading the way in the English top flight for the majority of the campaign. Ultimately, they were pipped to the post by trebly-winners Manchester City. However, Mikel Arteta will have hoped that his young side will have learned from that disappointment, and would come back even stronger this time around.

Having spent heavily over the course of the summer to strengthen their squad further, with Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, Jurrien Timber, and David Raya all arriving at the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal made a strong start to their title bid this season.

The north London club were top of the Premier League table on Christmas Day, for the second season in a row. However, since then, the wheels have come off somewhat.

Arsenal have lost their last three matches on the spin, across all competitions, with two of these defeats coming in the league. This has cost them valuable ground in the title race. The Gunners are now fourth in the table, five points behind current leaders Liverpool, and level on points with Tottenham Hotspur.

Gary Neville backs away from Arsenal title tip and talks up Spurs

Neville now believes that things could be set to get even worse for Arsenal. The former full-back thinks that there is a real danger that Arsenal could not only miss out on the title again, but could also wind up finishing behind Spurs in the table come the end of the season.

As quoted by Sky Sports, the pundit said, “if they [Spurs] keep their players fit, they are a certainty to finish in the top four and I think they can get to second and third. With those players back, and if they can get through these next few weeks, I genuinely think they can be better than Arsenal and Liverpool this season.”

Finishing below Spurs this season would be a disaster for Arsenal, and certainly would not sit well with the Emirates Stadium faithful. However, Arteta will not even be allowing the thought to enter his mind at this stage. There is still a long way to go this season, and the Spanish coach will still believe that his side has what it takes to finish the campaign at the top of the pile.

Arsenal fans should also still have faith that the club can pull off something special this season. The last few matches does not have to define their season, and they can still make up the lost ground. However, if they fail to get back to winning ways against Crystal Palace next time out, then it really will be time to panic, as asserted by journalist Charles Watts.
