Arsenal will have to wait at least another season to win their first Champions League crown.

PSG’s 2-1 victory over Arsenal doesn’t reflect the full story of the match as Mikel Arteta’s side took the game to their French hosts but couldn’t get over the line.

Arteta praised Gianluigi Donnarumma for being the difference in the tie as he made exceptional saves from efforts from Gabriel Martinelli and Martin Odegaard in the early exchanges.

In truth, the Gunners should have been at least two goals ahead before PSG got a grip back on the game and Bukayo Saka was guilty of missing an incredible opportunity moments after scoring to make it 2-1.

Thierry Henry has criticised Arsenal for failing to win a trophy yet again this season and Ian Wright has now revealed his stance on the manager and the progress of the team.

Ian Wright makes clear stance on Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal future

Speaking on the latest episode of his podcast ‘Wrighty’s House’, the former Arsenal striker has made it clear that Arteta is the man to bring success to the club.

Wright stated: “If there’s anybody, any manager that’s out there that I would say ‘you know what, I’m going to roll again with this manager’ because I think we will win something of real significance with him, this is the manager, this is the team, these are the ones.”

Martin Keown says Arsenal’s tactics were ‘perfect’ in Paris as they pushed Luis Enrique’s back and tried to expose their lack of physicality.

Arsenal just could not take advantage of the many moments they were creating and ultimately, that has been the story of the season.

Sticking with Mikel Arteta is the only way for Arsenal

A trophy was expected at the Emirates Stadium this season however, Arsenal’s injury crisis amongst many other factors has meant it is another barren campaign.

That fact that even without a striker, Arsenal have managed to compete among Europe’s very best shows that Arteta is doing the right things at the club.

Arteta sent a message to Andrea Berta after the Premier League defeat to Bournemouth that the Gunners are lacking a clinical edge in attacking areas.

If this can be addressed in the summer with two or three quality additions, Arteta will soon have the last laugh on the footballing world.
