Jurrien Timber names the Arsenal youngster he thinks is ‘unbelievable’

In recent seasons, Arsenal fans have often bemoaned the lack of chances handed to young players at the club by Mikel Arteta.

The Hale End Academy has a rich tradition of propping up the first-team at Arsenal, one of the most decorated in the country.

Fortunately, Arteta has now deemed both Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly as talents who have the necessary quality to progress to the first team.

The Arsenal manager seemingly concluded that Charlie Patino wasn’t good enough, and the club couldn’t prevent other talents like Omari Hutchinson from seeking a new path.

But either way, fans in N5 will simply be grateful that they get to see Nwaneri and Lewis-Skelly on a regular basis now, two future England internationals.

Jurrien Timber praises both sides of Myles Lewis-Skelly at Arsenal

To that end, Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber has now been talking up Lewis-Skelly’s ability in the lead up to the Gunners’ date with Manchester United in the FA Cup.

Timber was speaking via Hayters TV shortly after the recent defeat to Newcastle United, when the Dutchman was already being asked to look ahead to Sunday.

Then, the former Ajax star was questioned about his fellow full-back at Arsenal, whom there is increasing excitement about.

Lewis-Skelly started on the opposite side of defence to Timber in the 2-0 defeat to Newcastle, a young player who the Dutch international hailed as a ‘joy’ to watch.

Timber said: “I think he’s unbelievable, he looks so mature, not just on the pitch but [also] as a person.

“He’s far above his age and for me also, just like the fans, it’s a joy to see him play.”

Lewis-Skelly set for new Arsenal contract

Timber gave Lewis-Skelly a new nickname recently, a player he is clearly growing very fond of playing alongside.

Lewis-Skelly is set for a new Arsenal contract, a deserved reward for all of his progress and hard work over the past few years.

However, it’s not all good news in terms of new deals in north London right now.

Leandro Trossard rejected a new contract offer recently, leaving Arsenal seriously frustrated.

Perhaps the Gunners do need to install a new sporting director as soon as possible, with Tomas Rosicky close to returning to Arsenal in that role.
