‘Having a nightmare’ – Arsenal fans beg Mikel Arteta to axe starter who was a ‘liability’ vs Man United

One Arsenal player stood out for the wrong reasons against Manchester United, in what was a tedious contest for the Gunners.

It was the usual problems for Mikel Arteta to solve as Arsenal drew 1-1 with Man United at Old Trafford. 

United took the lead against the run of play as Bruno Fernandes scored from a free-kick, a goal that was controversial due to Anthony Taylor’s mistake when directing the wall.

The referee’s performance was the least of Arsenal’s worries however, as the Gunners once again made things difficult for themselves in the final third, failing to create goalscoring chances. 

Declan Rice did score to see the points shared but, the lack of power from Arteta’s front line could not be sugarcoated.

Arsenal fans fume at Leandro Trossard vs Man United

After scoring seven goals against PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League, Arsenal fans were thrown back down to earth at Old Trafford.

One player stood out to supporters for how poor he was against United, putting Leandro Trossard under the microscope for his struggles. 

“Trossard all over the place here,” one Arsenal fan said, reacting to the Belgian’s frequent mishaps on the left side of attack.

Another supporter focused on the left side as a collective, singling the former Brighton man out for his poor performance.

“Trossard is the problem on the LHS,” they said.

“When Trossard wants to be embarrassing, he comes correct,” a supporter said whilst watching the game, as a different version of the winger was seen to the one that starred in midweek.

Trossard starred against PSV but, the Belgian then dipped lower than most at Old Trafford, which drove one fan to comment on the 30-year-old’s lack of consistency. 

“I’ve never loved & hated a player as much as Trossard. His inconsistency is genuinely infuriating.”

To add to the attacker’s poor display in general came his lack of discipline, as after being booked early on, the 2022 winter signing continued to push his luck.

“Trossard a liability now in this match,” an Arsenal fan said on X, with another agreeing, “Trossard having a nightmare and on a yellow… get him off!”

Amid news that Trossard rejected a new contract at Arsenal, some spared a thought for the forward’s future at the Emirates, saying, “Trossard has to go in the summer.”

Trossard was heavily involved against Man United

Though Arsenal fans were not convinced by the Belgium international’s display, it can’t be said that the winger did not try.

Trossard was heavily involved in the game for both the right and wrong reasons, making his presence known in front of goal but, failing to offer any clinical streak.

What’s frustrating for the player is that now is the time to really keep the momentum going, as Gabriel Martinelli returned from injury against United. 

With pressure rising in the Arsenal squad and a need for improvement crucial, Trossard is one player who needs to reflect heavily on the draw at Old Trafford.
