Interim England manager Lee Carsley has made a statement about the future of Ben White at international level.
Arsenal defender Ben White is currently in a self-imposed exile when it comes to the England national team.
Whilst Gareth Southgate was still in charge of the Three Lions, White made it clear that he did not wish to play for his country.
Back in March, White informed England of his decision, via a message from Arsenal sporting director Edu Gaspar.
The Gunners’ full-back was criticised from some quarters for this decision. Former Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp took aim at White, claiming that the 26-year-old’s actions were “disgusting.”
However, it would seem that the player remains comfortable with his decision. White has no plans to return to the international arena.

Lee Carsley offers fresh start to Ben White
Lee Carsley has reiterated the fact that White’s stance is clear. However, the coach has also stated that things need not remain as they are, and that he would consider White for the selection were the defender to make himself available.
As quoted by the BBC, when asked if he planned to speak with the Arsenal man, Carsley said: “I’ve not planned to, no.
“We spoke about this in the squad selection. Every player that is eligible to play for England is in with a chance. As far as I’m aware he asked to not be contacted. If that changes, that will change.”
Whilst Carsley is clearly keen not to close the England door on White completely, the 4-cap defender’s own demands are unequivocal. At this stage it must be assumed that White’s international career is over for good.
England’s loss is Arsenal’s gain
Mikel Arteta will have no issue with White’s decision to turn his back on international football.
As this current international break has proved, with Riccardo Calafiori limping off the pitch and Martin Odegaard ending up on crutches, clubs can suffer when their players are called away to feature for their country.
Meanwhile, whilst Odegaard and Calafiori have been in the firing line, White has been enjoying some extra rest and should now be ready to go against Tottenham Hotspur in the North London Derby on Sunday.
Whilst Arsenal couldn’t stand in White’s way should he decide to reverse his decision on playing for England, the current state of affairs will be suiting the club just fine.
